Sometimes, good things happen just at the right moment, and that’s exactly what happened to Donna Osborne. The 75-year-old from Pennsylvania won a $5 million lottery jackpot just after completing her breast cancer treatment. She bought the winning scratch-off ticket in June at a gas station in Lancaster County, where she lives, according to ABC News.

Before buying the ticket, Donna was waiting at an airport for her daughter, who was visiting family in Florida. After numerous flight delays, she decided to go home. "My daughter stayed and flew to Florida. If I didn't leave the airport, I would have never bought that ticket!" per SunnySkyz. The elderly woman realized that she had won the lottery while she was still in the gas station parking lot.

The 75-year-old said that she couldn't believe her eyes. She recalled, "I went back into the store and said, 'Can you please check this? Is it right or wrong?' Well, the clerk said, 'It's right.'" After this, she called her daughter to tell her that she won $5 million. "She didn't believe me," the old lady said. The lottery win was significant for Osbourne because it came right on her birthday and just after her radiation treatment for breast cancer.

Donna found the lottery win bittersweet after her cancer treatment. She has been providing transportation for the Amish community and told the Pennsylvania Lottery she has no plans to retire. "I don't know what I'd do with myself. I have to keep moving," she said. However, the woman plans to invest the money and fulfill her dream of traveling to Alaska. The lottery officials didn't reveal the amount Osbourne will be receiving after taxes.

A couple who won $1,250,000 in the national lottery decided to use it for a social cause. They wanted to help out Alder Hey Children's Hospital which once saved their son's life. Along with them, 21 other people also won the lottery and donated their money to the hospital. The woman, Ceri Roscoe Roberts was thankful for what the hospital did for their son. "Without Alder Hey, my youngest would not be here today," she said. She added that the hospital does some great work and they feel honored to give it back in terms of contribution and time.

Together, they raised $40,000,000 and also volunteered at the hospital. They planted a border along a new walkway around the Alder Center bereavement unit. The hospital is undergoing a multi-million-pound redevelopment to create a world-class healthcare campus for children's health. Patricia Gill and her husband, who also won $1,250,000 on Euromillions, donated to the hospital. “Everyone knows about Alder Hey and the tremendous life-saving work that the hospital does and to be able to help to create an even better environment for children and their families, really is a true honor," Gill said.
