The level of entitlement some people exhibit can be quite shocking. Many of us encounter individuals who expect to be prioritized, and sometimes the best solution is to cut ties. That's exactly what Reddit user u/MushaboomFairy did. The 26-year-old cat parent shared how her girlfriend got offended because her cat had the same name. When the girlfriend demanded the cat’s name be changed, she refused, and the internet rallied behind her decision.

Having just started a relationship with her 28-year-old girlfriend, the cat parent worried about their first-ever disagreement. It all started when the girlfriend learned that the woman's cat was also named Jade. Though she seemed fine with it initially, the entitled human Jade couldn't tolerate the feline being cuddled and called by the same name as hers. She told the cat parent to change her furry friend's name, who refused lightheartedly, saying, "No way! It's been her name for as long as I've had her and I don't want to change it." This upset the girlfriend as she felt that the pet lover was choosing her pet over her.

"Once I realized she was serious, I said that I wouldn't make a decision like that in such a fresh relationship and that having two Jades in my life just makes the name even more special," they explained. The couple moved on from the "renaming" subject, but the girlfriend started giving her the cold shoulder. The cat parent wondered if holding their ground would cost them the relationship. "I'm not sure if the relationship will work out if she can't handle my cat having the same name as her, but now I am wondering if it's going to be because I won't change the cat's name," the woman admitted.

People pointed out that the girlfriend's expectations were unfair and sided with the pet lover. "Never rename (or rehome) a cherished pet to appease a potential partner. Human Jade is weird to be upset about this," said u/rapt2right. "Human Jade is ridiculous and weird she’s competing with a cat to be the only Jade in your life. Sounds controlling and it's a weird thing to get worked up about," commented u/UnusualPotato1515. "You just started dating and she's already revealed how crazy she is! Consider that a blessing. Also, cats do care about their names and know when you are speaking to them. Do the girlfriend a favor and break up. If she can't handle the cat, she's not worth the trouble," added u/yildizli_gece.

Just as many suggested, the pet parent realized how unreasonable her girlfriend was being. "I sat down with her and told her that I noticed that was a pattern and that asking me to rename my cat was unreasonable. I said, 'I think we were better off as friends and since we will still be around each other, I intend on being civil with you and hope you feel the same,'" the woman mentioned in an update. Despite such a considerate breakup, the human Jade wouldn't leave without humiliating the 26-year-old. She started making passive-aggressive posts online and badmouthing the cat parent to her friends. "For those of you saying she's immature and such, you were right, and I'm thankful for all of your kind and funny responses," the cat parent added.
