Not everyone is comfortable with online banking, and many still prefer visiting their local branch to manage their accounts. But what happens when an already time-consuming process is delayed even further? That’s exactly what a 92-year-old man experienced when the banking system failed to verify his identity, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. Frustrated and uncertain about his transaction, the elderly customer became distressed, causing a scene inside the bank. However, what started as a tense situation took an unexpected turn when the Montebello Police Department stepped in with a heartwarming act of kindness.

The situation escalated when the bank was unable to verify the elderly man’s identity, leaving him frustrated. His California ID card had expired, and without an alternative form of identification, the bank could not process his withdrawal. Despite multiple attempts, he was unable to complete the transaction, growing increasingly upset. When he refused to comply with the bank staff’s instructions, they called the police to help de-escalate the disturbance.

“Earlier today, officers responded to the Bank of America in Montebello regarding a patron who was causing a disturbance. Upon the officers' arrival, they discovered that a 92-year-old man was trying to withdraw money from his account; however, his California identification card was expired,” the Montebello Police Department confirmed in a detailed Facebook post from September 2017. The law enforcement authorities went on to suggest that the man was not happy with the services offered by the staff. However, the cops didn’t find them at fault, as they needed to identify their customers to fulfill any transaction.

“Per the bank’s policy, because his identification card was expired, they were unable to fulfill his request. The gentleman was upset, and the police were called,” the post added. However, instead of escorting the elderly man out, the officers showed courtesy by helping him. One of the cops, Robert Josett, reportedly decided to take the matter into his own hands. The officer in charge took the responsibility of driving him to the local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). “Once officers arrived, Officer Robert Josett decided to take the man to the DMV in town to help him renew his identification card,” the post explained further.

A heartwarming photo of Officer Josett assisting the elderly man at the DMV was shared alongside the post, showing the 92-year-old receiving support. Additionally, the Montebello Police Department identified him as Jesus Rangel. With the assistance of the DMV, his identification card was renewed, and he was taken back to the bank, at which point he was able to withdraw money from his account. “He thanked Officer Josett and went on his way,” the post concluded, inviting reactions from the online community. “Officer Josett is awesome and the ultimate professional. This young man was very supportive when my son was robbed of his cell phone. He spoke with my son, and found the guy who robbed him,” recalled Eliza Quesada. “What an awesome story of going above and beyond! Kudos to Officer Josett for taking the time to walk the elderly gentleman through the entire process,” Evelyna Lazo lauded.
