YouTuber claims he has 'proven' earth is flat by using a 'spirit level' on a flight

The YouTuber labeled gravity a lie and refused to take it into account as he carried out the experiment.

A flat-Earth conspiracy theorist and YouTuber carried out an experiment, which he claims, proves that the Earth is flat. He carried a spirit level on his flight in the hope of proving that the pilot would have to dip the nose of the plane to compensate for the curvature of the Earth. D. Marble took a flight from North Carolina to Seattle to monitor the curvature using a spirit level. "I recorded a 23 minute and 45 seconds time-lapse, which by those measurements means the plane traveled a little over 203 miles," he explained in a video posted to his YouTube channel. "According to curvature math given to explain the globe model, this should have resulted in the compensation of 5 miles of curvature. As you'll see there was no measurable compensation for curvature."

He also invoked a common theme among "Flat Earthers" — that gravity doesn't exist. "Understand that gravity is still just a theory," said Marble in the video. "No more defending what we know to be true! Now we take the fight to the enemy!" You have to wonder who the enemy is and what they stand to gain from covering up a purported "flat Earth." Naturally, man "Flat Earth" societies, including Flat Earth Activism, God's Flat Earth, gobbled up the video and shared them with their community of globe deniers.

D. Marble even sketched out elaborate "math" that he claimed proved the Earth was flat. "Specs for an Airbus A321 cruising speed is 515 mph. Cruising altitude is 34,000 ft. (at least that's what the pilot told us) I recorded a 23 minute and 45 seconds time-lapse which by those measurements means the plane traveled a little over 203 miles. According to 'Spherical Trigonometry' given to explain the Heliocentric model, this should have resulted in the compensation of 5 miles of curvature. As you'll see there was no measurable compensation for curvature. It gives an immediate indication of pitch (nose up or down) or bank. Once altitude is reached the Airplane flies at a constant altitude. Pilots have come forward to testify that there is no compensation for curvature during flight," wrote YouTuber, before adding that gravity was a lie. "This and past generations have been lied to about almost everything. NO MORE LIES!!! No more defending what we know to be true!" he wrote.

What's ironic is that all he needed to do was look out of his window from that altitude to realize that the Earth was curved, but then again he had his eyes on the spirit leveler. With gravity pulling the plane back to Earth, the spirit level was never going to fluctuate. D Marble carefully avoided gravity and labeled it a "proven lie." While the video might have garnered views from round Earth deniers, it was met with scorn on Twitter. Even the comments on YouTube mocked D. Marble, with one person writing, "The plane remains perpendicular to the Earth as it travels around. Imagine a solid stick from the center of Earth to the center of the plane. You could spin the plane around the Earth and it would remain perpendicular. The plane wouldn't tilt down at all." Another commented, "Crazy how people actually seem to be evolving backward. It's 2020 and some people still think the earth is flat."

We've known the Earth is a globe since the time of ancient Greeks and it's a shame we have to keep fighting conspiracy theories to establish the truth time and again. It was a Greek astronomer named Eratosthenes who proved the Earth was round over 2,000 years ago by using shadows. With the Sun's rays hitting Earth at the same degree, he compared the length of shadows at different locations which varied and thus conclusively proved that the earth was round. If you are still not convinced, you can always look at the library of images of the Earth that NASA has uploaded over the years that show the Earth as a sphere.
