She waited for the promotion for 25 years, but when her company appointed a new guy for the role, she Saw no point in saving the firm's money.
People commonly work under the assumption that the efforts they put in at work will inevitably be noticed and pave the way for professional growth. But the reality is very different, and promotions at work depend on a number of other factors, which means one can miss out on progress despite working hard for years. The hard truth about the corporate world is that everyone is replaceable, no matter how long they stay loyal to the company. Although many employees in such situations choose to quit and look for better opportunities, some decide to stay until they get the sweet taste of revenge. One of them was a woman who worked at a property management firm for 25 long years, but was still passed over for a promotion. Her story was shared by a resident of an apartment complex the employee was managing, who goes by u/Butterfly21482 on Reddit.
The user wrote in their post that the woman was not considered for promotion and in fact, the role that she was expecting to bag was offered to a new guy who, according to the tenant, "didn't know his a** from his elbow." They described the new replacement, saying, "One of those Neanderthal types with vacant eyes and his mouth always hanging slightly open." The resident was sure that the experienced woman did not take this treatment lightly.
"So this lovely woman now decides that her precious mission to save the company money is fruitless and will never gain her praise or compensation as she'd hoped," they continued. For years, the employee had been overlooking residents' complaints about faulty home appliances. But now, she began lavishly approving repairs and replacements of appliances for everyone. "Suddenly, when I made my fourth complaint about my dishwasher, she just ordered me a new one. AC unit not working well? Let's get you a brand new and more efficient one. One button on your microwave stopped working? Here's a new one. It's great and I bet they're regretting it now," the resident added.
Many were amused at how the woman used this opportunity to hit back at her firm with expensive bills. "I am sure she does not need a gentle reminder to have the new guy sign off on all replacement appliances," said u/No_Cockroach4248. The resident replied to this by saying that the employee was indeed ensuring all the quality checks that weren't happening before were happening now so that she could replace the appliances. "It's a perfect way to show them that they passed up on the wrong employee by losing the company a bunch of money," chimed in another Reddit user.
But not everyone was fine with this, and some even suggested that the employee was inefficient all along since she deprived tenants of repairs to save her company's money. "Another way to look at it is that she had the power to fix the issues all along and didn't. Now she's keeping tenants happy, more likely to stay and likely to give positive word of mouth about the property," u/hugothebear pointed out. "Maybe he wanted to get everything fixed as it sounds like she was the penny-pinching blocker in the past," remarked u/Osoberelious. "How come people act as if that lady is some kind of nice and friendly underdog? She 'saved' money by purposefully not helping the people and by not doing her duties. She mostly deserves this even?" added u/Glittering_Chemist86.
