The costume was made 35 years ago for the parent and then the child wore it after so many years for a photo.

Items passed down from parents to children can feel extra special, especially when it’s something the parent wore as a child. One mom experienced this full-circle moment when her mother saved a Halloween costume she had made decades ago, allowing her granddaughter to wear it, too. Reddit user u/simple_champ shared this touching moment with a side-by-side photo of herself and her daughter in the same costume.

"35 years ago, my mother handmade me this Halloween costume. She saved it all this time and now gave it to my daughter," the mom captioned the post with a side-by-side photo of herself and her little daughter with the pumpkin face costume and an orange and green hat. The mom was sitting in the kitchen in that outfit with a carved pumpkin and a bowl next to her on what looked like a brick staircase. While the daughter stood in a garden wearing the same costume, looking just as cute as her mom standing next to a pink flower bush beside the house in her version of the picture.

The post garnered over 20,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments, with some users speculating that the two costumes might not be the same. "It's just a perspective thing with the picture. In the original, the mouth is kind of lying flat, making the mouth look wider. If you knew my mom, you'd 100% believe it. Kept quite a few nice things like this from my childhood." Many others took to the comments section of the post to comment on the costume as well as to share their own experiences with costumes their moms made for them as kids.

It was basically a piece of plywood with some decal on it and a rope spiraled around through a row of holes around the edges. The rope had an extra length on each end for handles. Helping move them back to California after the big Joplin tornado destroyed their house and property, I saw it again in the trailer. I couldn’t believe they not only saved it but rescued it from the pile of debris that was once their house. Now I’m 66 years old and clearing out their house in California after they’ve both passed, him 89-year-old, four years ago and her this year, I have the pleasure of throwing that miserable pos in the trash! The decal is almost completely scraped off and my dad used wiring to reinforce the rope handles. It meant two very different things to each of us. They cherished it, but I was embarrassed by it."

u/don_Juan_oven commented, "25 years ago, my mom made me a mummy costume by ripping a white sheet into strips, then hot gluing the strips to a sweater and pants while I was wearing them. It was a labor of love, I swear, but I'll never let her live it down." u/Epic_Tom_Fool remarked, "You can tell they aren't the same costumes... The curvature of the smile is completely different on them. One older one is open wider and the newer one is a more acute angle. That wouldn't have changed over time unless the costume was replaced entirely."
