In case you are wondering what to do with the excess of money you have, you definitely shouldn't spend it on these unnecessary pricey objects.
Fashion has evolved a lot. In recent times, we have witnessed the rise of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Dior and many more. We have gawked at the celebrities who regularly appear decked in branded luxury products whose price tag is bound to make working-class people raise their eyebrows. Though fashion can be thought-provoking or worth our admiration, sometimes we fail to understand the purpose of certain items manufactured by these luxury brands. Maggie, a TikTok creator who goes by @refashionedhippie, is taking a dig at some of the most outrageously priced useless products from these luxury companies which only rich people buy on a whim.
Through her series of videos, she has been introducing a bunch of products manufactured by these famous fashion brands which are bound to baffle us. In one of her viral videos, the TikTok creator showed her audience some products launched by Hermes in their equestrian line.

"Welcome back to stupid rich people fashion and today we will be discussing the Hermes equestrian line," she begins, then shows the picture of a comb for horses which costs $260. She proceeds to show screenshots of the rest of the products in the line which include a tote bag for $1200, a $345 hoof pick, a stable bucket for $940 and a saddle box worth $700. "I knew that rich people spend a lot of money but I did not realize this," Maggie jokes.
In a second video, Maggie rounded up a bunch of "rich people fashion hair accessories" which are just a few products that you can buy from a regular store but these basic hair accessories are prized at an unimaginable amount as the logo of the luxury brand is stamped on them. She shows the screenshot of a scrunchie from Prada which costs $480, a Chanel hairtie which costs $766 and another simple plastic clip will cost their buyer a mere $495.
"Does it serve any purpose?" Maggie quips in the video, pointing at the Prada hairclip. "On one hand, it holds your hair back and it will also let strangers know that you are not a person that is worth talking to." Maggie has made many other videos on her TikTok and Instagram page, bringing up various products manufactured by luxury brands with skyrocketing value and she has received a fair share of negative criticism from luxury brand lovers as well.

In one of her videos, she addressed it. "I get a fair amount of criticism for this series because people think I am making fun of the models or that I am making fun of the designers by saying how dare they charge so much," Maggie said, adding that she comes across a lot of posts which proves that "everyone is on the right path." Then she shows Balenciaga 5G sunglasses, which look like a metallic piece from the future.

"They are $6000 and people want them. So I have no problem continuing to mock these people. Frankly, I think they are doing the Lord's work out here," she adds with sarcasm. Most of the TikTok crowd gasped at the prices of these products as well and left tons of comments. @goodmorningsunshine000 wrote: "I always read it as your hatred is at wealth, inequality and mass production." @jolunaxx wrote in her support: "Not once have you criticized the actual models. Also, designers are artists and art is there to interpret and criticize. Keep going!"
@ampedpixel joked: "I think they look kinda cool too but those aren't worth over fifty bucks at most." @sryxryy45 added: "Really enjoying your series! I used to work as a receptionist and it was all about appearances. I bought Gucci eyeglasses to wear there." Some even pointed out how rich people don't buy these goods but the people who want to look rich do. Well, the luxury goods industry continues to thrive. According to Statista, it is estimated that the revenue in the luxury goods market amounts to $354.80 billion in 2023. The market is expected to grow annually at 3.38% by 2028.
