Daughter surprises dad with 'prized possession' he sold to provide for his family 30 years ago

The moment someone chooses to become a parent, their priority changes for life. Children come first and parents go to any extent to give them a good life. This is what Lindsey Moore–who goes by @lindseyswagmom on TikTok–saw her father doing all through her growing years. She saw him making hundreds of sacrifices to bring a smile to his children's faces. One incident of sacrifice that made a huge impact on little Moore's mind was when her father parted ways with a prized rookie card to get some cash for their bills. She knew how much the card meant to him, but seeing the ease with which he gave it away showed her the depth of his love for them. The daughter was determined to return some of this love in her own way and she finally found the perfect opportunity for it when she got her father for Secret Santa. 

The video begins with the father opening up a present. Their family followed a 'Secret Santa' tradition and Moore picked her father's name. It was the perfect opportunity for her to give him the surprise she'd had in mind for the last 30 years. The father first got a letter, which he began to read. Unfortunately, he could not get through it and gave it to his wife. She read, "I was maybe seven or eight and you left me and Nick in the car to go into a store, at a comic book store. Money was tight, so you were selling your most prized possession. At least, I viewed it as that. At that moment, I felt your sacrifice. And it taught me that I would do whatever was necessary to ensure my future family never needed anything. It was a lesson that has stuck with me since that moment."

This gesture stuck with Moore for years when she decided to track down that prized rookie card of Dan Marino from his first season, as per a follow-up video. After finding its location, she immediately bought it and decided to gift it to her father. As the letter is read out loud, her father gets visibly emotional. Moore continued in her letter, "Seven-year-old for me would be so elated to see that I finally fulfill that promise I made to myself." He then went on to peep into the bag, having a fairly good idea of what was in it. He said, "I know what it is." He immediately went and hugged her, ensuring there was no dry eye in the room.

Moore's video went viral and gained nearly 9 million views on the platform. The comment section was equally emotional, seeing the whole surprise unfold in front of their eyes. @brettdickau commented on the father's appreciation regarding the gesture, "As someone who has sold his prized Gretzky rookie to provide for his kids, I appreciate and respect this a lot." @just.an0ther.jessica loved how all of it came together and wrote, "A father's love and the way it circled back for him through his daughter." @sophiet1904 shared their own similar experience and wrote, "My husband sold his Derek Jeter RC five years ago when we needed a new car, I'm saving everything I can to do this exact thing for him one day."
