While a Burger King whopper meal currently costs $14.99, it cost way less just two years ago and people can't believe it.
Though unbelievable, the reality of the impact of inflation has become an inevitable part of our lives over the past few years. Unlike the generation of their parents or grandparents, today's youth are unable to fend for themselves, much less buy a home, even with a six-figure salary. In these dire times, social media has become the place where people vent and relate to the rising cost of living. In a video from May, TikTok content creator Ally B made a shocking revelation of a Burger King coupon from 2022 and people are in awe of how less a Whopper meal was priced back then compared to now.
In the short video, Ally displayed the two-year-old coupon and mentioned, "More fast food price increase." In the coupon that would expire on May 1, 2022, a Whopper meal for two cost $8.99. It included a couple of Whopper sandwiches, two small French Fries and two small soft drinks. "When your husband finds old Burger King coupons in his car," wrote Ally in the caption.
Currently, a Whopper meal for two costs $14.99 and Ally shared the snapshot of an online order coupon for comparison. Though it consisted of the same three items—two Whoppers, two small fries and two small soft drinks, somehow the price has leaped a whopping $6 within just two years. "That is a huge jump in two years, literally, two years," said a voice in the video's background. The video gained 199K views and hundreds of people were shocked by the cost surge.
"Yes! The El Pollo Loco coupons used to be $10 for a meal for two. Now it says to save $3 off the meal for two not even giving the price! Like, what!" said @xonissi. "Yes, I just noticed that too when I get coupons like that and I remember the chicken burger used to be $5.99 now is $7.99," chimed in @maria_sanchez121. "For $14.99 you can get that family meal deal on the coupons they send me. Three cheeseburgers, three whoppers and three fries I think it is. I enjoy that when I want leftovers the next day," pointed out @rockershocker. "The original chicken sandwich was 99 cents in 2015. Then one day I went in the following week to get one and they were 5.99. Sad day," wrote @anasoledadtovar.

Speaking of rising food prices, last year, a woman highlighted the rising prices of the same grocery items in 2020, 2022 and 2023. In a TikTok video, the woman who goes by @Amywaytosave compared the prices of groceries within a three-year range and the results were shocking. While the items on her grocery list cost $10.09 by the end of 2020, the same items purchased in the same quantity in 2022 cost her 10% more. Later in 2023, the combined price of those same items came up to $15.10. Being an avid couponer, Amy always paid attention to prices and had many prices memorized. So noticing the increase in prices was quite effortless for her. She noticed that the price of eggs and dried pinto beans were particularly skyrocketing.
