The company introduced the new rule to punish employees for being late but it didn't work in their favor.
Rules and regulations in the favor of employers, as well as employees are the foundation of a good workplace. But often, companies introduce policies that seem unreasonable to workers for all the right reasons. That is what seems to have happened at a workplace where employees have been told to work 10 minutes extra after punch-out time for every single minute they are late. However, the rule could backfire in more ways than one. TikTok creator Callie–who goes by @_cal_cifer–posted a video talking about the bizarre notice and the several things that could go wrong with it. The best part about the situation is that the company that has devised the rule will end up getting the shorter end of the stick.
Callie adds the video to her "companies must be on crack" series. She continues, "Today we have this wonderful example saying, 'New Office Rule. For every minute you are late to work, you will be required to work 10 minutes after 6 pm.'" It further read, "For example, if you arrive at 10:02, you will have to stay an extra 20 minutes until 6:20 pm. Thanks." The creator says, "I don't know what you're thanking me for because I would literally never do that." The woman points out that the company policy is insane and micromanaging.
She explains why it won't bear any fruit in the long run, "Next, I guarantee that no member of the management is ever going to be in accordance with this rule." She expresses, "If my shift is 10:00 to 6:00 and I show up at 10:02, I am still leaving at 6. Maybe the absolute latest I would leave would be by 6:02." She wonders if the company is equating each minute to 10 minutes, many hourly employees would have to do overtime. Callie questions, "Is this company completely comfortable with paying all of this sudden overtime?" Because they would be forcing employees to stay 20, 30 or 40 minutes late for being 4 minutes late. She wonders how long the policy is going to last. People took to the comments to point out even more loopholes in the policy.
@daggusundertheclaw wrote, "Easy fight. I show up 3 min early and leave 30 minutes early." @andystamant commented, "It's awesome when labor law violations are posted in writing." @theunhingedging remarked, "I mean, I'll stay, but I'm staying clocked in and watching my hours. You're paying me for that extra time." @yourheartismyfavorite shared, "My boss said I'll give you the 4 hours off for a doctor's appointment, but you will have to work an extra 2 days next week. I called the HR."
@knp1987 said, "If I'm staying, a boss better stay too! If I'm unsupervised, I'm leaving. I would get petty too and be late every single day, forcing my boss to also stay if they want me to actually stay." @sendrii213 expressed, "If they want me to work that, I'm getting paid overtime. If they deny the overtime, the Labor Board will fix it."
