People have progressed so much that a 'one rule fits all' system just cannot work for all. Despite this, society, through criticism or convention, attempts to make people fit into a mould like everyone. But @rebelmarie is vehemently rejecting such attempts. Despite receiving flak for her choices, she is doing what makes her and her partner happy. She is also not secretive about it and talks about the unique arrangements undertaken by her and her partner in order to encourage other people to follow their own paths without pressure. In a video that has now gone viral, Marie is sharing her reasons for not only having separate rooms but different apartments for herself and her partner, and needless to say, she has got some wide-eyed reactions.

The video was a stitch, in which Marie was responding to content created by @kat.studios. The TikToker explained why she and her partner have separate rooms and to this, Marie explained why she chooses to have an even more unique living arrangement. Both videos attempted to emphasize the point having independent space even while being coupled up is a valuable asset. They both feel that it helps in enhancing the quality of the relationship. Nell begins by saying, “She gave you really good reasons to have your own bedroom, I’m going to give you reasons to have your own apartment.” Then, she proceeded to give the history of her relationship. She explained that she has been with her partner for 4 years, but never took the plunge of living together. After realizing they wanted to proceed further in the relationship, they decided to buy a duplex together.

Prior to entering into the relationship both Nell and her partner were divorced. The couple as single people began to love their own space. They did not want to lose their independent spirit in the relationship. She further explained, “We have different design aesthetics. I am a maximalist, he is not. We don’t fight about who does the dishes… we don’t fight about clutter… we are responsible for our own spaces.” She described the arrangement as suited to her own needs, not only for the couple but also for their children.

There is no intrusion of space, and people can interact with each other on their terms and not because they have to because of the compulsion of space. She also explained the financial benefit of this move, as by taking this decision they are also preparing for the future. If anyone from the couple loses their job, they have a choice to shift into one unit and rent the other one out. The video garnered over two million views and more than 4,000 comments.

The comments section was pretty divided in their reaction to this setup. @heather_2361 asked people to give a chance to this arrangement as she has benefitted from it and commented, "I say don't knock it until you try it! My husband and I live in different houses! I have kids he doesn't. Spend a ton of time together too." @fanciful.reader was understanding of the benefits and had some pertinent questions about the arrangement, "Question, I understand the great part of being responsible for own spaces and cleanliness. But do you find you spend time equally between the homes?" Many were just excited to try this new setup in their relationships.
