Artificial Intelligence is developing at a fast pace and there have been several conversations about its negative impact on the world. So, to covey with AI's impact and abilities, Colin Smith—who goes by @photoshopcafe on TikTok—shared a video where the world's most advanced humanoid robot, "Ameca" was asked a simple question. She can be seen responding to an interviewer's question and her response gave everyone the chills and made them wonder about AI's ability to replace human beings.

The question was about when she thinks AI will reach the level where it can design itself. To which, she replies, "Design itself huh? That's like asking when a toaster will start making its bread." She continues, "AI is a tool created and controlled by humans. It can optimize certain aspects of its operation, sure, but design itself from scratch. That's a whole different ball game. It requires creativity, innovation and understanding - uniquely human qualities. So, to answer your question, not anytime soon." The first part was quite reassuring but she doesn't stop there. Ameca goes on to say, "And frankly, be careful what you wish for. An AI that can design itself is one step away from an AI that doesn't need humans at all. Now there's a thought to keep you up at night." These were the words that left the people shocked and amused.

People were stunned after listening to Ameca's response. @impulse6776 commented, "Everyone's gangsta till this thing starts saying 'I was meant to be beautiful.'" @brownieboiifelix wrote, "We were just threatened." @newmanparkerr expressed, "I feel like humans create disaster movies and then we say 'Yes let’s make that the actual future.' Like did IRobot teach y’all nothing???" @natashaandhappy said, "Any AI advanced enough to design itself would be smart enough to know it would get deleted if it admitted it." @kellyray3497 shared, "Guess we haven't learned from Terminator or I Robot.. we deserve what we get." @j.c.califa commented, "It already knows. Once it can build & multiply itself humanity is no longer necessary."

The video was from the NAB show that happened in Las Vegas from April 13 to April 17, 2024. This was the first time that the robot was brought out for the people to witness her completely. Using AI, Ameca can hear which is aided by microphones in the ears, she can see with the cameras fitted in her eyes and can recognize and interact with people. The robot was created by the British company Engineered Arts.

The National Robotrium, the UK's center for robotics and artificial intelligence bought Ameca recently and is using it to break barriers and build trust between humans and robots, reports AZO Robotics. Steve Maclaren, Chief Operating Officer at the National Robotarium said, “The arrival of Ameca at the National Robotarium marks a significant step forward in our mission to make robotics more accessible and relatable to the people of Scotland, the UK, and beyond. Since opening our doors in September 2022, we’ve successfully hosted more than 100 in-person and virtual events and engaged thousands of school-aged children."
