As the work culture keeps getting more exhausting and demanding, working professionals often try to find an escape from stress and fatigue. Sometimes, people restore to unhealthy coping mechanisms and other times, they opt for healthier alternatives to put their minds at ease. Many of us have heard about white noise helping with our sleep struggles and we also play those static sounds to increase our concentration and even during meditation. But people are hardly familiar with something called the "green noise."

Lately, on TikTok, people have been looking for green noise, a popular music trend that helps listeners to calm and relax. The hashtag #greennoise has witnessed over 2 million views on TikTok in the past three months. However, there is a share of the audience who are still speculating about this term and wondering how exactly it helps people in any way. As white noise contains equivalent volumes of all the sound frequencies the human ear can hear, green noise boosts the frequencies in the middle of that range, according to the Sleep Foundation.

"Green noise is a type of white noise which lies in the middle of the frequency spectrum, often resembling the soothing and calming sounds of nature making it particularly relaxing," says Adam Butler, a workplace solutions expert and CEO at Officeology, as reported by Indy100. Butler also explained why this particular noise is beneficial for employees and how it helps increase their productivity. "For employees, listening to green noise can help them improve their hyperfocus and ultimately increase productivity levels," he explained.

"Work can be overwhelming at times, especially in high-intensity situations like preparing for back-to-back meetings or managing your workload in a busy working environment. This can often lead to employees feeling stressed, as they can't achieve what they initially intended to do during the working day," Butler elaborated. According to him, the green noise can help listeners maintain their focus and drown out any distractions when it's time for them to concentrate.

"It has also been recognized that green noise is a great aid for neurodivergent employees that have ADHD and Tinnitus, as green noise can provide a soothing environment that can act as a barrier against distracting outside noise and can increase concentration levels." Moreover, he added that after a hectic work schedule, finding motivation can become a "challenge" to many people. The green noise gives people's brains a well-deserved reset and calm. He recommended people listen to the green noise during their lunch breaks so they can continue being productive at work.

A bunch of other TikTok creators have shared their opinions on the effectiveness of green noise. "You know how we have like brown noise, white noise, pink noise, green noise? I think the reason these noises are so effective is because we hear them in our heads all the time, but we are just ignoring it," a TikTok creator, @jada__nicohl, said in her video. An Australian content creator on TikTok @nicoleshiraz shared her bedtime routine, where she can be seen listening to green noises on her phone and claims it puts her to sleep really quickly.

An assisted meditation and sleep app @calm posted a bunch of TikTok videos sharing samples of green noises that guarantee to "quieten your mind" and its 500hz frequency is particularly helpful for sleep and relaxation. Fellow TikTok users had positive responses to it. @dexluvss wrote, "Thank you.
