Guarding a lost wallet fetched this worker a $100 reward — but it was the handwritten note that made their day

The act of doing good and exercising kindness in itself feels rewarding. However, when people get back to you and let you know how much you’ve impacted their lives, it feels even more special. A woman, who goes by u/Hate_This_Part on Reddit, shared a post on March 14, revealing the gratitude of a stranger that brought a smile to her face.
The woman who happened to be working in a parking structure was handed over a wallet with $900 that someone had dropped. She ensured the item was stored safely till it reached the rightful owner, Susan, and she replied with a $100 note and a heartwarming thank-you note.
There was a concert around the area where the woman was working. A little before it could end, one of the coworkers handed over a wallet to the woman. “He had been given a wallet that a guest had found next to a car,” she mentioned. While the man was on the lookout for anyone searching for it, no one showed up.
Since it was time for him to leave, he handed the wallet over to the woman, who waited until her shift ended. In a comment, she mentioned how she had once lost her wallet with a couple of hundred dollars in it, and so she knew how frustrating it could be for the person.
When no one arrived to collect it, even then, she gave it to security, ensuring the rightful owner received it. To her surprise, when she showed up for her shift the next day, her boss gave her a handwritten card. In another comment, she mentioned that she thought her boss was giving her a gift card as an appreciation for her good deed. However, when she opened the note, she realized it was from the owner.
Along with a $100, a beautiful and neatly cursive handwriting read, “I wanted to personally write and express my deep gratitude for your finding my wallet in the parking structure and ensuring its safe transfer to security.”
Susan further expressed her gratitude for the person the worker was. Who thought honestly and returned the wallet intact. “May God bless you for your honesty, kindness, and willingness to be a source of good in this world. I’m enclosing a small token of gratitude,” she concluded.
“Opening up the card, realizing it was from the owner, and reading the message, it just felt warm. I did not know I missed handwritten cards,” the worker noted. She was touched by the gesture but again exercised fair play. While she didn’t know who found the wallet and gave it to her coworker, she split the $100 with the latter, as he was also worried for the owner.
What touched her was the gesture. “Honestly? Even though I’m broke, I’m way more excited about the card than the money,” she said. She added how she had often returned things, but never learned whether they were received rightfully or not. So the fact that someone got back, and with so much thoughtfulness, meant a lot. “The card will be cherished. I don’t save birthday or Christmas cards, but this will go with other sentimental things I plan on keeping forever,” she remarked in another comment.
An exchange of a small kind deed, and it evoked so much warmth, not just for the giver and the recipient but also for the internet. According to statistics from the American Psychiatric Association, 93% of Americans have reported some deed of kindness. These included some pretty simple yet thoughtful gestures that anyone can practice at any given point.
A majority (69%) said they greeted a stranger. This was followed by (68%) holding the door for someone and (65%) saying they complimented someone. Other acts included checking up on someone, paying someone’s tab, donating to or volunteering for a good cause. 89% said doing these acts for others made them feel better. And 90% of recipients said they were touched by the acts.
