Woman shows people how salt and pepper shakers should be used and people have strong opinions about it.
There are some everyday kitchen tools that all of us know how to use. Right? Maybe not. A woman revealed the right way to use salt and pepper shakers and it has taken the internet by storm. Cody who goes by @cody.93 on TikTok posted the video of a woman demonstrating how to use salt and pepper shakers in order to get an evenly distributed sprinkle of salt or pepper on our food and it is mind-blowing.
The woman stood in her kitchen wearing a mask and had laid out a tissue paper to sprinkle salt and pepper on. The shakers looked like they were made up of glass and had ridges at the bottom. "See these ridges down here?" the woman said as she pointed at the circle at the bottom of a pepper shaker. "This is the proper way to use a salt and pepper shaker," she said as she turned the shaker upside down and rubbed the pepper shaker's ridges with the salt shaker's ridges in a circular motion. She was trying to show that the spices come out way more easily and evenly through the method over just normally shaking it.
The caption of the video read, "How old were you when you learned the proper way to use a salt and pepper shaker?" The video received more than 1.5 million views and over 96k likes. People took to the comments section to express their thoughts on the method. @theipaz commented, "Somehow, I don't think that's the right way. but thanks for sharing." The creator replied, "Lol the ridges are actually because there can be condensation and so it keeps the glass from sliding on a table from moisture but this works amazing." @amazoncouponcodefinder wrote, "It's not the proper way... shaking the SHAKER is the right way, however that way does work also though."
@1love2571 pointed out, "That's not what those ridges are for! Those are created at the time of creating the glass to help it cool without cracking." @arcticxfox remarked, "It’s not the right way but it is way more effective. I guess you say it’s a happy accident that it was designed this way." @yowanwyrd shared, "Tell me you believe anything anyone tells you, without telling me you believe anything anyone tells you."

The same video was reposted on X by @todayyearsoldig. The caption of the video reads, "Why are we only finding this out in 2024." Many people thought the method was a little strange and probably a little unhygienic as well. Others were not quite convinced that this was the right way to use a salt and pepper shaker. @dann185 stated, "Good way to get nasty food crumbs in your food the shakers have been sitting on top of on the table."
Another user said, "Really depends on the coarseness of the salt and pepper. Only finely ground s***** stuff will work." @ChiliKnight00 expressed, "The bottoms of S&P shakers are often disgusting. I wouldn't want to rub them over my food." @cfinley240 joked, "This is equivalent to George Constanza eating a Snickers with a knife and fork."
The ridges on the bottom are for grip. Don’t be fooled by this.
