It sparked a lot of reactions online, but there was a lot more to the story than what people had assumed.

Relationships are complex, with many layers that a brief online snapshot can never capture. Similarly, a woman from Marbella in Spain, Liv Tara Sophia—who goes by @livlovig on TikTok—shared a clip of her boyfriend and best friend hugging each other and the internet was stunned by her response. Sophia was glad that her best friend, Ida, and boyfriend, Luke, could get along well, but people online speculated that there might be something she wasn't aware of. She shared the brief clip that sparked a debate online.

"Walked in on my best friend and boyfriend like this," the text overlay of the video read as the woman broke into a smile when she saw her friend and boyfriend. The boyfriend was hugging the friend's neck as they both looked at something on the phone. They both looked up when they saw the camera.

When it zoomed in on them, they smiled at Sophia. The video’s caption reads, "No, but for real - seeing my boyfriend being cute with my friends warms my heart, and him showing that he cares about them just really shows what a good man he is." The video received more than 11 million views and over 567k likes.

Many in the comments felt differently about the moment than Sophia. @pursuingperfect wrote, "Girl, we just got over couch guy and party girl. Don't do this to us." @georj_anne23 remarked, "There's close and then there's too close. That is not right and I'm a very understanding and responsible person, but I wouldn't even be comfortable with my best friend doing that with someone I dated." @yolandayaffa shared, "It's the way they look at her and immediately continue with what they were doing as if it were nothing...They are too nonchalant and relaxed."

However, many people supported Sophia's stance. @enya.bucataru commented, "People who are reacting negatively to this are insecure people in their relationship. My husband is also like this. You can love people without loving them." The creator replied, "This! I understand that some people have trust issues from trauma, but I do think this is the purest love and 100% trust."

Later on, after people questioned the relationship, Sophia clarified to Newsweek that she was sick and her best friend, Ida, was feeling low due to a personal issue. So she asked her boyfriend, Luke, to hug Ida and comfort her in her place so she would not pass on her infection to her friend. "Luke cares deeply about me and stepped into that role because he values not just our relationship but also the friendships we've built with the people close to us," she told the outlet. "Seeing them hug really warmed my heart. It reminded me of how grateful I am to have such strong connections in my life."

The girlfriend also revealed that she had only pretended to catch them on the video and already knew all about it. "Some called Luke a cheater or accused Ida of being a 'snake.' I think a lot of these reactions stemmed from unresolved trauma or trust issues. To me, it's so natural to want the people you love to have a good relationship with one another. I think this question ties into ego and jealousy," she expressed.
