Woman's 'oldies gone wild' birthday party is the perfect vibe for the old souls out there

The idea of a fun party varies for everyone, but some celebrations unexpectedly turn into the perfect event a person didn’t know they needed. Smriti, who describes herself as an “old soul” and wasn’t sure how to celebrate her birthday, got the surprise of a lifetime when her husband organized a hilariously unique party that’s winning hearts online. Smriti, who goes by @thebrownvanlife on Instagram, shared all the delightful details of her “Oldies Gone Wild” themed birthday bash.

“What do you want to do for your birthday?” her husband asked. “I am too old to party,” Smriti replied. Despite her reluctance, her husband went ahead and planned what she later called “the most perfect party.”

Guests arrived dressed as senior citizens, complete with “wobbly knees” and “high-waisted pants,” fully embracing the “Oldies Gone Wild” theme. Smriti described it as a celebration “for people who are not old but feel old.” The dress code was “senior citizen chic,” and attendees were encouraged to embody their “older alter ego.”

The party featured a photo booth for vintage-style pictures and even had an adorable young boy serving as the DJ for the night. Smriti couldn’t help but gush about the event, calling it “so sick” and praising the creativity that brought her playful and heartwarming birthday bash to life.

The grannies who graced the event included, "Raging grannies, bubbly grannies, cardio grannies" and so on. The woman went on, "After celebrating this 70th birthday in my 30s, I got a lovely glimpse of my future life. It hit me that getting old isn't as scary as I thought as long as I am surrounded by love and laughter." She added, "It is not about the years ahead, it is about the now. This party where my friends shuffled in with their walkers will be a core memory for a lifetime." The woman expressed, "Thank you for being the Carl to my Ellie husband," she said, referring to the character in the Pixar movie "Up." The caption read, "Party theme for the old soul like me. OLDIES GONE WILD. No pressure to dress up fancy, read in heels. Just show up in your parent’s old/comfy clothes. Sober choices were welcomed. We all have back pain and weak knees. Early cut-off time for that beauty sleep."

The caption went on, "I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday after not celebrating with these people for the past four years. Kartik truly made it perfect by renting a studio where we all got to spend quality time full of laughter and joy." The woman added, "My friend gave me a card for my future 70-year-old saying how we grew old together happily and it made me so emotional. Truly got a glimpse of what my future might look like as long as I make sure I focus on the NOW and keep adding these fun moments. Thanks, Kartik, for everything.
