A woman's idyllic vacation takes a shocking twist when she learns the unexpected meaning behind a tattoo she got in Fiji, leaving her confused and regretful.
Holidays are filled with excitement and adventure, yet fun in a foreign land can sometimes turn into a regrettable moment. In a similar incident, a woman didn’t realize she had crossed the line until she found a strange tattoo on her right leg. In true "Hangover" style, content creator Amy Dickinson, who goes by @amzdicko on TikTok, was enjoying her time exploring the remarkably beautiful Fiji Islands until she discovered the body art.
In a sudden outburst, Dickinson revealed to her 95.4K followers her new body ink. “I didn’t know that Fijians could be so mean because now I’ve got a tattoo, and I don’t even know what it means,” she said while tears streamed down her face. The woman, who hails from Australia, appeared to be in a state of shock and panic on camera as she explained further.
Because she had no clue about the tattoo, she decided to ask her followers what it meant. “Can someone please tell me what I have on my body? Okay, here’s my tattoo. What does it even mean?” she questioned. Several users in the comments section of the quick 13-second video started responding with their interpretations of the inking done in the Southern Pacific Island nation’s language.
Among them, @zenon.hm wrote, “That’s ‘capital letter’ in Fijian.” Agreeing with this, @seratshananigans deciphered it as ‘Matanivola Levu,’ which, according to them, loosely translates to ‘Capital Letters.’ The original video was a response to a comment that read, “Don’t do it, girl; nobody is saying the right thing here,” garnered 1.9 million views on the social platform, along with some negative reviews.
This prompted Dickinson to post a follow-up video with a slightly longer explanation. “Well, I'm a really fun, spontaneous person, and sometimes that's a good thing, but other times it can be a bad thing,” the content creator explained. She added, “Now I’ve got this tattoo that apparently means ‘Capital Letters? Sorry, I'll try and pull it together.” Furthermore, the Australian woman faced criticism for getting a tattoo without knowing its meaning.
“Are there any other meanings for this, or is it literally just ‘capital letters’?” Dickinson asked in the second video. To her surprise, @nicksnightmare9 explained the Fijian phrase "Capital Letters," which meant “'Big Book’; in other words, it describes someone who has many stories to tell.” Others pointed out that it was a way of saying the person with this tattoo indulged in various adventures in their life.
The explanation brought some relief to Dickinson. She stopped crying and, within hours, posted a third clip of the entire tattoo saga. This time, a seemingly happy Dickinson responded to the comments accusing her of making up the story. “No, I swear to you, I wish this was a drill, but it’s not. This is my tattoo,” she said while showing her latest ink to the viewers.
The ink appeared on her upper thigh and had well-arranged letters in italics, resembling the initial picture she shared in her first clip. “I wish I was joking, but I’m so serious. I keep going back and forth between laughing and crying. What the f***?” she concluded, sparking a laugh riot. @tiktoktings88 commented, “It’s just another chapter of your life.” “I actually love it though,” added @manooshq.
