On straining the drink, she found something inedible blended along with it and many other customers shared similar experiences.
Major brands promise quality products consumers don't usually question what's inside them even when it comes to food. Microplastics are known to be used in cosmetics and with increasing pollution they've made it to drinking water and even fruits, but would you expect shards of plastic in your daily coffee?
Many instances of packed food or even freshly made food being adulterated or impure have made their rounds on the internet. Earlier this July, a lifestyle content creator Binx aka @beepunzel on TikTok, shared a jaw-dropping revelation about the contents of her Starbucks drink. The video quickly gained traction with over a million views and people could relate to it.
As the video begins, the Starbucks customer showed an empty cup whose contents were transferred to a strainer. It's unusual to strain beverages but Bianca had to do so because there were dozens of sharp and tiny shards of white plastic found in hers. "Here I am trying to strain it out to see how many pieces I could find and it was, like, never-ending," the consumer said. Amid the froth left over from the drink, Bianca picked out more plastic bits that would go unnoticed as its color perfectly matched the drink and could even be mistaken for ice.
"Usually I don't go to Starbucks, but I needed it. I had a long night the night before and I just needed it," Bianca explained. Her rare visit to the coffee outlet became a nightmare when she ended up picking hard plastic bits from her frappuccino. After a while Bianca got tired of straining and simply washed away the remaining froth and even more pieces of plastic remained in the container once the froth was washed out. "Starbucks Caramel Frapp with a side of sharp hard plastic," the customer quipped in the caption.
This stunning revelation had many people wondering how white plastic got into the blender. Others shared their own experiences of plastic contamination in their food. "My daughter had a chunk of clear plastic or glass in May. They didn’t care at all," said @soggybottommomma. To this, Bianca replied, "Oh no girl! The store manager offered to remake my drink. I'm like, ma'am I'm at home working and I'm not going back!" @marvel170921 wondered, "It looks like the oat milk cap. Don't know how that is possible. As a Starbucks barista, I have never had anything like this happen," and Bianca pointed out that the store employee wasn't even busy while making the drink. "This happened to me! A piece of the blender popped. I called and they only offered $5. I fought it for a day and got $20," added @ayooitsbecky.
Some of the users also shared rather hilarious instances related to Starbucks. u/natasbby shared on Reddit about how she and her husband were pleasantly shocked at how a Starbucks employee split her sandwich. While the woman expected to find the sandwich cut horizontally in the middle to make two equal halves, she and her husband got two oblong sandwiches after the employee chose to slice vertically. "I guess I should’ve been more specific," the woman quipped.
