There’s no greater joy than hearing a loved one share their true feelings. For those who are hearing impaired, such moments often require relying on sign language or lip reading. In 2015, Allyson Kahler shared a deeply personal YouTube video about her hearing loss and the moment that changed her life. The video has since garnered over 14 million views, resonating with people worldwide.

Kahler shared the video from her doctor's office after getting her cochlear implants. "I found out I was hearing impaired when I was 21. As I got older, my hearing slowly declined. I wore hearing aids, but that only made the sounds that I could not really hear become louder. I still relied on reading lips. I was so excited to find out about cochlear implants. In this video, you will see my first activation day. It is very powerful, and it was one of the happiest days of my life," she detailed in the video's caption. But this wasn't just another trip to the clinic because she was about to hear something special for the first time in her life.

Another medical professional sitting opposite Kahler instructs her about how the cochlear implant is going to function. She adjusted the volume on the external part of the hearing device and asked Kahler if she could hear her voice. At that point, Kahler was already emotional as she prepared herself to hear things clearly. She started shedding happy tears and giggling when she was able to hear the other woman's voice. The other woman reminded Kahler that it's natural she might start hearing her own voice more loudly. Kahler's mom stepped into the frame at that point and kissed her on the head.

"The fact that you can hear my voice and your mom's voice is awesome. That's a big improvement from where you started this year. The noise is going to go away. It takes a little bit longer for your brain to adjust to this sound," the woman assured Kahler. Then she talked to Kahler's husband, who was in the room but out of the frame. "Your husband keeps looking at me to see if he can say something to you," the woman joked. That's when Kahler's husband uttered, "I love you, Allyson. I love you," her husband told her.

Kahler, overcome with emotion, smiled and said, "That’s awesome." The video pushed the viewers to get emotional along with Kahler as she recovered from her hearing loss and they left loads of comments to wish her well. @laeioun commented, "He really picked the perfect moment to say those words to her and you could tell he was smirking." @MDCox202 pointed out, "The way she flinched every time she sniffed was fascinating. I can't imagine how that would sound as one of your first noises, especially since it's coming from inside your own head." @josephstewart7351 added, "I remember when I got my first hearing aids. I was driving down the street and kept hearing this sound. I stopped in the middle of the road and listened. It was birds singing. I cried all the way home!"
