'You couldn't have had a better guy to help you through it...'
Lindsey Marie, who goes by @lindseyhmarie on Instagram, was on her way to the hospital when her water broke, forcing her to give birth in the car itself. Luckily, she had her husband and a police officer who happened to be driving by to help her deliver the child. A week later, Maria took her newborn daughter, Olivia, to meet Lieutenant Hayes, the kind officer who had helped bring her into the world. In a beautiful video, Marie captured how it has become more like a tradition for her family to visit the officer, to honor his timely intervention that made her childbirth truly unforgettable.
When Lieutenant Hayes saw Maria's week-old daughter at the station, he immediately took her in his arms, soaking up every bit of the surreal moment. Maria's son had even gotten a gift for the officer, possibly to express his gratitude to the man who brought his baby sister into the world. But that wasn't the only time the family had gone to meet the officer. They kept in touch with him and, in fact, made it a ritual to meet him every now and then. "Some moments in life create bonds that last forever. Grateful for his kindness and for the story we’ll never stop telling," Maria wrote in the caption. If the police officer hadn't arrived on time to help Maria, the situation would have been tragic. Perhaps, this is why officers are trained to handle such emergencies. According to the National Library of Medicine, police officers receive medical training, but only for limited interventions.
Mostly, when a critical situation arises, emergency medical services (EMS) are called for better assessment. Like in the case of Maria, Lieutenant Hayes arrived just seconds before Olivia was born, but as they waited for the EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians), he managed everything on the ground. Later, the police officer even drove Maria's car to the hospital so her husband could be with her and their daughter in the ambulance, PEOPLE reported. Meanwhile, Maria's video, shared on March 15, 2025, received over 20 million views on Instagram. Reacting to it, @mrs_hammertime commented, "From a police wife whose husband just attended a tragic juvenile call yesterday, you cannot imagine how much this means to him. Please keep doing it." @_trinitysky shared, "Omg! I was born in a car in a church parking lot. This is how my mom described the officers' reactions to me!"
Echoing the sentiments, @jackie_bridges1 shared, "My son was born at home 22 months ago, and I’ll never forget all our first responders and EMS who worked on both my son and me! They’re the only reason we’re still here today. I delivered my son myself after a cryptic pregnancy until birth, and he came a minute after my water broke with barely a push. He flew out, but I was hemorrhaging, and his O₂ was super low, 40%, by the time we got to the hospital. They walked my husband and me through every step of the way until they got there, and then my husband drove behind, as they had to have so many guys on us in the ambulance!"
