Husband won a premium makeup kit and gifted it to a female co-worker. His wife saw their viral post and asked one question that shook their marriage

While the man posed with his co-worker, acting kind and generous, she was busy exerting labor in household chores

Living under the same roof or sleeping on the same bed doesn’t make a person bereft from feeling lonely, isolated and unseen. Despite gender equality becoming buzz topic among relationship communities, many women still struggle to feel valued, seen, and visible in their marital relationships. This emotional pain leaves them fatigued, distressed and grappling with a suffering that often goes unnoticed by people around them. In a July 7, 2026 post on Instagram Threads, a woman (@klhoe_sulllivaan) shared an episode where her husband preferred his egoistic reputation over love for her, which made her feel severely undervalued in the relationship.

Marriage shaken by a makeup kit

The woman expressed reluctance in expressing her feelings, thinking that people would call her crazy. The other night, while her husband was at an office lunch, he won a premium and expensive skincare-makeup kit that “any woman would love to get.” But instead of bringing it home for his wife, he simply handed it over to a female co-worker. When she confronted him on that, he called out for being overly dramatic and added that it would have looked “bad” for a man like him to accept a makeup kit in public.

Public display of male ego

Later on, the company posted a photo of him with his coworker holding the makeup kit. At a time when the two of them were smiling at the camera, the woman was toiling herself in cleaning the house, preparing dinner, and caring for their son. Seeing the photo, tears started rolling down the woman’s eyes. “The feeling of being undervalued was so violent it took my breath away,” she remarked. What struck a bad chord with her was that her husband preferred displaying himself as a nice, generous and kind man instead of giving a thought to her feelings.

Someone else’s karma

The woman is now stuck in an emotional loop that is eating her up from the inside. While he asserts that it’s her “silly jealousy,” she is at the verge of swallowing her tears and suppressing her rage because of the guilt. Just one action, just one photo of her husband tossed his wife into an emotional ditch and she is now bearing the suffering for something she cannot be blamed for.

The unfathomable struggle of married women

A study published in Springer emphasized that across the world, the act of suppressing feelings is predominantly performed by women within intimate relationships. This “unequal distribution of emotional labor” is the greatest predictor of relationship distress in women. According to the Gottman Institute, women are the ones to raise a ticket in relationship distress 80% of the time. Another survey by YouGov suggested that one in five women reported being disgruntled because their partner failed to pay attention to them, neglects them, or makes them feel invisible.

This is unforgivable

Instagrammers who read her story empathized with her saying, she has every right to feel upset, but also to get up and carry herself without depending on her husband. @dawng0075 commented, “An insecure man will always value the opinion of others over that of his wife's.” Another intelligent insight came from @thatchermom1, “I could forgive his in-the-moment error in judgment, but only if his response when you told him you were hurt was to apologize profusely and immediately take you shopping for your own gift basket. His actual response is unforgivable.”
