"Abuse is abuse, anywhere," Scarlet Delemeny (@chronicallygirl), a lifestyle influencer, said in her TikTok video that she posted on April 1. She was in Kenya last September, on a family trip with her fiancé. When she came back to her tent, she saw that a stranger had left a comment on one of her posts literally a minute ago. The comment called her a "gold digger" and a "spoiled little girl." The moment she read it, she knew who it was from. The video had received 2.3 million views, 264,400 likes, and 1,175 comments.

'Gold digger'

When Delemeny read the hate comment, the details the stranger mentioned pointed to only one person — her mom. Delemeny was sure because no one knew that much about her, besides her mom. The comment included her current address, the house she grew up in, her rent, and more. Her mother pretended to be a "good Samaritan," calling Delemeny out for speaking ill of her mother.

The comment began, "You were not traumatized or beaten as a child. You grew up in a $1 million mansion...you seem more like a gold digger." She continued, "I hope your mother never sees the things you have said about her." The "stranger" also told Delemeny to see a therapist for her "lies." There was also only one person who liked the comment.

The proof it was not her incriminated her further

Delemeny and her mother had gone no-contact for a while, but broke it after her mother doxxed her in the comments. When she called her out, her mother immediately responded that it was not her. She even sent a photo to show the phone from which the comment was sent. Delemeny added, "That literally just proves that she was in the room with this phone that wrote the comment." Delemeny decided to respond one last time. She listed a few of the things that proved it was her mother, said she was "cruel and stupid," and ended the message with, "This will be the last you hear from me." She blocked her immediately before she had the chance to answer.

Gen Z is more likely to go 'no-contact'

A Talker Research study found that 38% of Americans have gone no contact with a friend or family member in 2025. The study broke down the numbers by generation and revealed that young people are more likely to go "no-contact" than older groups. 60% of Gen Z are more likely to go "no-contact" with a friend or family member compared to 20% of Baby Boomers. Half of Millennials would do the same, and only 38% of Gen X would also consider cutting ties. Even though Delemeny did not mention her age, she falls under the category of the younger generation.

Toxic mom liked her own comment

Several people congratulated her on sending the final message and blocking her. A few also pointed out that Delemeny's mother liked her own comment and thought it was funny, but desperate. @sweetbabyangelaavery wrote, "I know she liked her own comment." @linnvi08 commented, "No one cuts contact with their parent for no reason. I’m sorry for what you went through."
