A grieving woman was amazed when she discovered a final, special message left by her late grandfather during a visit to his grave.
Death often takes away everything a person might have accumulated or built during their lifetime. But it doesn’t have to take away one’s memories. Nowadays, a small business named Last Memory (@lastmemory_official) is employing technology to provide people with unique medallions that can preserve their loved one’s memories. One TikTok video they posted shows a woman visiting her grandad’s grave and reviving an old voice message left by him. “Try not to cry,” the caption on the video read.
The video opened to a snowy grassy lawn surrounded by bushes. A woman in black approached her grandad’s headstone, took out her phone, and scanned a QR code on a black square chip attached to the granite. The code was framed by a heart shape and titled “Last Memory” in bold white letters. Using her phone’s camera, she scanned the code and instantly the voice of her late granddad came alive.
“Hello, my love. I gotta wish you all the luck in the world for tomorrow. Just take it easy. Don’t panic. You know, uh, granddad and Toby and your mum are all behind you. Just take it easy. And I love you. You gotta do what you gotta do and do it well,” the voice message said. The message made the woman teary-eyed. “My grandfather made me an eternal gift,” she said in the video’s text overlay.
In another touching video shared by the company, a woman visits her grandpa’s grave, saying, “I really needed my grandpa today.” As the camera zooms in on the QR code marker on the tombstone, she scans it with her phone. The video cuts to her phone screen, where the sound of her late grandpa’s voicemail begins to play. Titled "Grandpa’s home" and dated June 2022, the voicemail message wished his granddaughter a “happy” and “wonderful” birthday, with a transcription of the message displayed on screen.
Yet another video posted by the brand shows how a Last Memory medallion preserved the memory of a handsome couple, both of whom were “amazing dancers.” As a woman scanned the QR code on a gravestone, the code directed them to some yesteryear footage of their grandpa and grandma performing a funky-style salsa during their young years.
Last Memory’s founder revealed in a video that the idea for starting this company began with her personal story of loss. When her family members liked the idea, she went ahead and started selling these “medallions” to people looking to cherish, preserve and revive their loved ones’ memories. “A unique way to share with the future generations,” she wrote in a promotional TikTok.
