Millennials and Gen Z are the two generations who have witnessed the majority of digital advancement while they were growing up. However, the generation that came before these two struggled to adapt to the technology and social media jargon. Sometimes the boomers have people from the younger generation to educate them about the online lingo and usage of emojis. In other cases, their lack of social media knowledge gives rise to funny moments like the one posted by a young man Asho (@ashotiktokalot on TikTok).

In a brief but popular video shared by him, Asho can be seen shaking his head from side to side. He also looks down and rubs his face with some mock disappointment. "We need to teach our parents how to use emojis," the overlay text on the video read. Then a single text message which is presumably from Asho's dad, floats up on screen. "Your cousin passed away," the heartbreaking message reads followed up with a skull emoji. The dad who sent the message was probably trying to refer to the demise of the cousin using the skull emoji. However, no one from the current generation would prefer to use that particular emoji after delivering sad news.

The video garnered fun remarks from people on the internet who shared the story of how seniors often misinterpret the meaning behind some of the emojis. @mw__682 shared, "My dad said his cousin passed away on Facebook and put laughing emojis because he thought they were crying emojis." @spongendogs objected, "I think our parents use the right emoji but this generation has a different view on the use of emojis." @kokimyss mentioned, "Bro my mom started using✌️in literally every sentence. Mom: I divorced your dad ✌️." @waitingfortheworms08 added, "Once I was texting my dad about going to school the next day because of something and my dad responded: Ok 👨‍👩‍👧."

Another content creator, Christal Luster (@christalluster on TikTok) made a separate post reacting to Asho's video. "I am inclined to agree," Luster spoke in her video while showing the screenshot of Asho's video in the background. "Because Mom, I love you and I know you are going to watch this video but some of these emojis you shouldn't have used." Then Luster abruptly cracks up looking at the text from the dad with the skull emoji. She tried to catch her breath and admitted that she "wasn't prepared for it."

"Can you imagine? Getting a text like this from your father? He is not wrong but you have to know. First of all, why are you texting this?" Luster speaks through her bouts of laughter. "You have to know that this is not it Daddy. So how did we let the boomers get cellphones? They should stick to a pen and pad, okay? Get these old folks together because, no!" she concludes, wiping her tears and still laughing at the text. Some people in Luster's comment section also agreed with her and wrote down their experiences with boomers using emojis. @cvbrerv91 commented, "My mom's friend's family member passed away and my mom commented on their post using 😂😂😂."
