The encounter began when Imbrunone noticed two women diving deep into the messy state of modern romance. "I was sitting across from two women at a bar last night and I overheard them talking about dating and how horrible it is with men these days," he recalled in his video. As he listened closely, one woman passed along a golden piece of advice to her friend for screening potential men on dating apps. He quoted the first woman as saying. "Girl 1 says to Girl 2: 'When you're talking to these guys online on these dating apps, ask them to describe their dream girl.'"

Confused by the suggestion, "Girl 2 goes, 'Why would I do that? That seems a little weird." But the answer that followed left both the friend and Imbrunone floored: "Girl 1 goes, 'Because if it sounds anything like a child or a slave, you know to stay away.'" The sharp revelation landed heavily on him, and he confessed to his audience, "And that stuck with me," before wrapping up his video.
According to data by the Institute for Family Studies, only 1 in 3 young adults are actively dating. That is, 74% of women aged 22 to 35 report going on only a few dates or none at all over the course of a year. Less than 4 in 10 claim that they trust their judgment when it comes to choosing a dating partner. Furthermore, Match’s 2026 Singles in America study, conducted with researchers from Kinsey Institute, found that 34% of singles prioritized peace and emotional safety over passion and excitement, compared with 14% who chose the latter. Among women, the figures were 40% and 9%, respectively.
