Some people give off shady vibes right away, and that's what Chrissy (@lillypulitzerstylist), a Nashville-based travel and lifestyle content creator, experienced on a date. From the beginning, something about her Hinge date did not feel right. In fact, at one point, she began to wonder if the man was already married. Suspicious, Chrissy googled his number but, surprisingly, found nothing. Still curious, the woman turned to her sister for further investigation, and the revelations that followed unraveled a deeper deception. Chrissy shared the incident in an Instagram video, which has received 3.2 million views so far.

The suspicious Hinge date

Chrissy knew nothing about her date, except for his first name. But what truly fueled her doubts was the fact that he used a burner cell to call her. Determined to uncover the truth, she asked her sister to dig further, and what she found was downright shocking. Within minutes, Chrissy's sister not only tracked down the man's house, but she also managed to pull out crucial private information about him. She couldn't establish whether the Hinge date was married, but she confirmed he had not one but four kids. Moreover, Chrissy's sister revealed that the man was 35 years old but presented a much younger version to impress his date.

The wolf in sheep's clothing

Two days later, Chrissy returned to Instagram to share more shocking details about the CEO she went on a date with. After wasting more than a month on him, she found out that he had multiple criminal records to his name. In fact, the Hinge date had 22 different cases involving illegal drug possession. To help other women protect themselves from such dangerous liars on dating apps, Chrissy shared how her sister discovered the man's secrets. She revealed that her sister used lenso.ai — an AI-powered reverse image search engine — to find the Hinge date's social media accounts. Later, she put his information on Arrests.org to find court records against him. You can find the video here.

Women's intuition vs. liars

Not everyone is honest on their dating profiles. While some lie about their age and profession, others go so far as to lie about their gender to impress other people. A 2024 survey of Americans on dating apps found that one in five lie about their age, while 14% fabricate their income. To impress their potential partners, another 14% of respondents admitted to lying about their interests and hobbies, and 12% confessed to lying about their height. But are people — particularly women — able to identify such deceivers? Well, a survey of 2000 women (by Talker Research) found that more than half of the respondents (56%) have a strong belief in their intuition. On average, a majority of women admitted their gut feeling is accurate 68% of the time, especially when meeting new people or making major life or health-related decisions. But unlike Chrissy, many women confessed that they do not act on their instincts, which leaves them more vulnerable to deception.

Meanwhile, several women in the comments agreed that knowing how to be one's own detective while dating online is a necessary skill. Others noted how a woman's hunch is always right. For instance, @schmisschmina commented, "Lying about age, even by a year or two. Lying about height, even if it’s an inch or two— these are non-negotiables. When they lie about easily verifiable facts, they'll lie about other things, too. Without a doubt." @grittysarah wrote, "Your gut is always on. 10/10 times when I have a hunch — I’m right."
