The employee was quite surprised at how people in the upper management treat people below them at certain workplaces.
Certain situations require urgent attention, where a person may need to drop everything to prioritize them. Medical emergencies are one of these situations. At such times, most people expect to receive support or understanding from their work or family. Similarly, an employee, u/Yasmine_Bleeth, found out that her fiancé was in the ER and had to rush to be with her during office hours. However, her boss wasn't happy about that, and she was called into the boss's office. Many people on the internet were surprised by the incident.
"Boss threatened to fire me for leaving work because my fiancé was in the ER," the employee began. "As the title says, my boss called me into his office this morning and started laying into me about how we aren’t making a profit, and I can’t just be leaving work whenever I want." She further added, "I told him, 'Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but my family comes before your company.' He just looked at me and said the next time I do it, I’m fired. He pointed out, 'Heads will be rolling the next time it happens.'"
She was quite surprised after listening to her boss's response. Moreover, she admitted that she was looking for a new job now and wouldn't be serving their two weeks' notice when she found one.
In comments, she wrote, "It honestly baffles me how often upper management treats anyone under them like garbage." Also, she shared that her partner was doing a lot better now. The post received more than 4,000 upvotes and over 160 comments. People took to the comments section of the thread to support the employee and to share their own difficult workplace experiences.

Funny how every single one of those same bosses, when they have a family or close friend emergency, vacation, or social event, always take off work, and the rest of us are expected to pick up their slack. But I can't take the day off for my parents' 50th anniversary party."
u/Can_Chas3r43 commented, "I remember I had to evacuate due to a fire (CA), and I worked at a veterinary hospital at the time. I called to tell the vets that I had to evacuate. I had a horse trailer full of horses, three dogs, a cat, and two parrots in my truck/trailer. I thought the vet/owner would be supportive of being a vet and all, but instead, she yelled at me and said, 'THE PRACTICE IS OPEN, I NEED YOU HERE!' So I told her that was fine, but I had to park the truck and trailer in the back of the property. She said no. I said that I wouldn't be coming in and that if she needed to fire me, that's fine...I know lots of first responders, the animal community, and anyone else who would be understanding. Maybe, also, the news? My parents have political connections...we are under evacuation orders."
