'You’re supposed to impress me, not just feel pretty about yourself,' he said.

A woman walks out of a date after her Bumble match crossed all boundaries and went too far, accusing her of faking her looks to impress him. When Hazel Kan (@hazel.kan), a Malaysian content creator, opened up about wearing contact lenses, the man grew visibly agitated. In fact, he belittled Kan by saying he was on the lookout for "natural beauty," and she definitely did not qualify as one. Kan, who had fortunately recorded the entire showdown, shared it on Instagram. Her explosive video went viral with over 13 million views.
When her Bumble date asked if Kan had natural gray eyes, she shook her head and admitted to wearing contact lenses. Her honesty, however, did not sit well with the man. In fact, he appeared quite agitated by it. "Why are you wearing contact lenses? It's not cute; it's lying to me," the man said. At first, Kan thought he was joking, but another inappropriate below-the-belt remark jolted her out of that assumption. "It's not natural beauty. I am only looking for natural beauty," the rude man added. Moving on, he accused Kan of trying to impress him with her fake appearance. To this, she snapped back, saying she wore the lenses because they made her feel pretty, and not to impress him.

The guy went on to rant about how Kan was supposed to impress him and not just get ready to feel good about herself. Quite disgusted by his remarks, the woman picked up her purse and walked away, but not before giving the man a taste of his own medicine. "First of all, you tell me on your Bumble profile that you are 180 cm (70.8 inches)... when we stand together, you are my height, and I am 164 cm (64.5 inches). Goodbye, thank you for the drink," Kan said, exposing him.

In a YouGov survey, 35% of American respondents admit that societal expectations influence their decision to wear makeup. In fact, younger women (under 45 years old) are twice as likely as the rest to be heavily influenced by social norms (44% vs. 24%). Similarly, a global survey of women in the UK, Germany, Spain, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia found that appearance-based judgments are still prevalent, particularly among women. In fact, a majority (97%) of respondents confessed to being judged for how they look. The date alone proves Kan isn't the one who was called out just for choosing something she loved.

Meanwhile, reacting to Kan's creepy encounter, @puffykirbyy commented, "He deserved to stay lonely." Similarly, @dragana praised Kan and wrote, "This was an award-winning way you took care of this person — you go, girl!"
