She refuses to enter into the toxic cycle of multiple jobs and tire herself out on all fronts just for the sake of living.
Inflation as an issue has been impacting each individual in America. Despite the price hike, the wages have not experienced a similar growth. It has caused individuals to spread themselves thin in their professional and personal lives to make ends meet. Some of the measures are having a devastating impact on people's mental health. Shay—who goes by @shayjo21 on TikTok—has refused to adhere to the impossible lifestyle choices and instead turned the tables on lawmakers to create a way out of this situation.
Shay began the video by giving some context about the present financial condition, "Things out here are getting expensive. I see that: grapes $7, eggs $5, homes half a million dollars, cars 40 grand even for used. It could be a Mazda they don't care." All these expenses constitute essential needs for human life, such as food, shelter and comfortable transportation. It is tough to cut off on them and to keep up with their increased prices, individuals have resorted to taking up two and sometimes even three jobs. Shay, though does not want to go that route.
The woman clearly states, "I don't give a damn how expensive it gets, I'm not working the second job. You all are not about to have me out here working twice. I'm good until about 5.30...5.31 legs, start buckling, my knees going 6 o'clock, vision blurry, and can't find my car." Shay is explaining how the body system works. Humans need their rest. They cannot be "on" all the time. If they overexert themselves for a long period, that could lead to poor manifestations in their health.
In her opinion, civilians should not be the only ones making this sacrifice. There is a government in place that should look into this matter. They should craft a solution that does not require humans to compromise their health just for the sake of living. She finishes off with, "I can't work two jobs. So whoever needs to fix it, please fix it because it's to the point where working 40 hours a week ain't enough."
The comment section was in agreement with her points. @caylaleilani wrote how doing multiple jobs is toxic, "clocking out then having to clock in somewhere else 30 minutes later is CRAZY." @brucewaynebanner commented that the present economy is unfair, "We shouldn't have to work 2-3 jobs to be able to afford life for ONE person!!" @berrymorin shared how things have escalated as the times have passed and nothing now seems enough, "I remember as a teen thinking I can't wait till I make 50k. Now, the goal is 250k. 61 year old." @i_am_zoe8 said, "After COVID, my body is done at 4 pm."
