It is every employee's basic right to utilize the paid time off (PTO) their employer grants them. Unfortunately, in reality, many employers are overly stingy and difficult to deal with when getting PTO approved. It causes employees to become frustrated because they are not able to fully utilize their PTO. Kay—who goes by @mvpkayy on TikTok—posted a video and talked about how her employer did not allow her to use her PTO right before she left for another job.

Kay starts the video by revealing how she does not care about her present job anymore because she knows when her last day is going to be. She says, "So I have 28 hours of PTO. I'm like, 'Well, before I quit, I wanna use my PTO.'" She points out how PTO was often "eaten up" through taxes. She had experienced it herself the last time she took some time off. Determined to use her PTO, she decided to plan it properly, coupling it with her days off so that she could have a long holiday.

She has plans to attend a concert on February 14, which happens to be Valentine's Day. So, she structured her leave in a way that would allow her to attend the concert without upsetting her employer too much. Kay mentions that February 16 was the end of her pay period, which would allow her to "gracefully bow out." Hoping for the best, she submits her leave requests, only for her leaves to be denied.

Kay states how she would eventually go to work and would probably get an explanation for why she was denied so many leaves. She hilariously states, "But baby, that was just a warning. PTO! Prepare the others because I won't f****** be there. She talks about how she wanted to do the right thing and leave without giving the employer two weeks' notice. She concludes the video by ranting about she was not going to the office even though her PTO request was denied.

Her video went viral, garnering over 415K views and 37.3K likes. People supported her stance and shared their support in the comment section. @planetkaee said, "PTO is never a request. It's a letting you know I'm not gonna be here, period." @thathannah_w commented, "I did that, took my PTO hours and worked a single shift. Left them a note with all my uniform stuff in the office knowing I wasn't coming back." @konasfinest shared, "I put in my two weeks and I had 30 hours of PTO that they refused to let me use or payout."

It seems that getting PTO approved is quite tricky, which has caused many people to find ingenious ways to get it approved. Thalia—who goes by @thaliasanmiguel on TikTok—posted a video with a text overlay reading, "When one of my managers rejects my time off, so I resubmit and a different manager approves it." In the video, Thalia can be seen dancing to a song at a store while sharing this useful hack. The video has received over 464.4K views and 50.5K likes on the platform.
