Divorces are not happy affairs. The realization that the person you imagined the rest of your life with at one point in time, no longer fits with your present, is heartbreaking. If betrayal is mixed in this process, it becomes more tenuous for a person. Katelynn Smith, who goes by @katelynn0009 on Instagram, not only had to face betrayal from her husband but also from her best friend. The fact that two people she put her trust in, dealt her such massive blows, was a tough pill to swallow. However, being a strong woman, she took it all in and is now in a better place. But she does not want to forget this incident, as it gave her some important lessons for life, especially in the case of relationships. She shared it all in an Instagram post.

Smith wanted to share what she has learned regarding relationships because she sees many people around her making the same mistake she once did. Though the breakdown of her marriage was hard, the one thing that she is glad she took away from it was that it is never worth begging someone to stay. She wrote in the caption, "I’ll never beg someone to stay. I know my worth and I hope you do too."

As an influencer, Smith shares her entire life on Instagram but for years she held back on one detail. She never revealed why she and her husband parted ways. In the video, she starts by ripping the band-aid off and reveals to her viewers: "My husband fell in love with my best friend." Though they are no longer in her life, the pain they left her with was immense. It took her years to recuperate, and therefore she did not want to reveal the information to her audience. She did not want to talk about them when she was in such a vulnerable state and pass on her pain to her followers.

Smith decided to talk about it when she felt she had learned something from her situation. Her objective regarding the video was to share the lesson that she learned from this experience. She tells her viewers, "The people that are meant to be in your life, will be in your life." Her implication was that people who care will always be around, your small missteps or imperfections will not drive them away. People put a lot of pressure on themselves to be on top of everything and to keep someone in their lives. Smith debunks this and states, "If it's so easy for someone to leave, then they were never truly meant to be with you, long-term anyway."

Smith emphasizes that if being your own true self-drives away people, then those people were not meant to be life-long relationships. In her opinion, when people truly want to make it work, they will make it work, regardless of what life throws their way. If they do not want to stay, they will go away. Smith then goes on to warn people against begging others to stay. She puts it down firmly, that such relationships are not healthy. She asks, "You really want someone in your life that you have to beg for?"

Smith suggests that even though fighting for a relationship is not wrong, it is important that both parties are fighting for it. If it is one-sided, she asks people to first value and respect themselves. In her opinion, if people hold themselves to a standard, they should let the other person go for their own sanity. People should prioritize themselves and not be in a constant war for a relationship.

Smith accepts that being lonely is hard, but she confirms with conviction that "it is way better than begging and pleading with someone to see your worth and value." She ends the video with a positive message for everyone to hold on to, "You are worth so much more than that and I hope you see that... I see you and I love you."

The comment section loved Smith's advice and her maturity. @navkirenk agreed with Smith about not fighting for people who do not want to stay, "My mum once said, deterioration of one or two flowers in the garden will not take away your happiness, there are so many beautiful petals that are waiting for you." @rafaelv_6 appreciated the way Smith handled the situation by commenting, "I envy your level of maturity. You deserve the best."
