Losing luggage while flying can be a distressing and inconvenient experience for travelers. Despite airlines' efforts to handle baggage efficiently, occasional mishaps can occur, resulting in misplaced or delayed bags. The situation can leave passengers without essential belongings, causing stress and disrupting travel plans. Ella Reshynsky (@ellareshynsky) has shared some valuable tips on TikTok to minimize the chances of this happening.

In a video shared on the platform, she explains how she keeps track of her bag using virtual methods. This advice comes after she faced a recent mishap with her own luggage. Initially, she states, "Things I will always do when I'm checking in luggage as of now after having mine missing for an entire three-week trip."

The first step she takes, which she credits for reuniting her with the lost bag, is attaching an Airtag, an Apple tracking device, to any checked-in luggage. Additionally, she now photographs the interior and exterior of her bag, ensuring detailed information in case of any future incidents of lost luggage. According to Reshynsky, having such photos would be beneficial in situations where the luggage tag is torn off. By comparing the pictures taken before the trip with the contents inside the suitcase, airline staff can quickly identify the bag as the owner's, even without the tag, facilitating a smoother process for reuniting travelers with their belongings.

Additionally, Reshynsky recommends the practice of distributing belongings among multiple bags. This suggestion resonated with several individuals in the comments section of her video. Doing so can be helpful in case one bag gets misplaced or delayed, ensuring that essential items are still accessible in other bags during the journey.

In conclusion, Reshynsky wrapped up her video by stating that whenever possible, she will opt for a carry-on while traveling and make an effort to keep her most valuable possessions on her. According to her, this strategy has successfully safeguarded her essential items during her trips. Reshynsky recounted how her travel experience was saved when she traveled for a wedding as a bridesmaid. Having her dress and shoes with her proved crucial, as her checked-in luggage went missing, avoiding a potentially disastrous situation. Considering the significant number of mishandled bags each year, Reshynsky's tips hold valuable importance.

In 2021, the United States Bureau of Transportation reported over 2 million mishandled bags, constituting just 0.51% of all checked bags. Nonetheless, this volume of misplaced bags could potentially impact a considerable number of travelers annually. Being proactive and adopting Reshynsky's strategies may help travelers mitigate the impact of lost luggage and ensure a smoother travel experience.

Many people agreed with her helpful tips in the comments. @jharts84 commented, "Crosspacking is so important! At least one full outfit, jammies, a swimsuit and sunscreen (if necessary) for each person in each bag. So frustrating!!!" As travel continues to be a significant part of people's lives, safeguarding luggage becomes a crucial aspect of the journey. Ensuring security and proper luggage handling can contribute to a more stress-free and enjoyable travel experience for all travelers.
