The new branch of the fast-food chain Lotteria is completely unmanned, which means you can get your food without having to interact with anybody.
A trip to your local McDonald's does guarantee you a delicious burger but with it comes a whole lot of social interaction which isn't ideal for introverts. However, in South Korea popular local alternative, a food chain called "Lotteria" makes it easier for people to get delicious food without interacting with anybody. A video posted on TikTok by Lauren Wolfe (@laurenwolfe), takes the viewers through the famous fast food chain which originally opened in Tokyo in September of 1972.
Dubbed the McDonald's of Korea, "Lotteria" has now introduced new restaurants that are completely unmanned and will give you the feeling of living in the future, as pointed out by Wolfe. "The McDonald's of South Korea are living in 2050," she wrote in the video, and added in the caption, "Sometimes it’s nice to have no human interaction".
In the video, Wolfe shared a peek inside the Asian fast-food chain in Seoul. Lauren visited Lotteria L7, the first unmanned "smart-store" in the restaurant chain which is based in Hongdae, which is a suburb of Seoul that’s frequented by a young, hipster crowd. While the other branches of Lotteria aren't high-tech, this branch stands apart and is impressive.
First, you enter through the sleek automatic glass door which leads you down a red corridor. After this Wolfe is seen entering the area with the self-service screens. In the video, she showed how nobody needs to interact with a single person and can successfully get the burger in hand without talking to a soul, all thanks to technology.
In the clip, she is also seen tapping her order on the touch screen which then alerted her with a sound when the food was ready. She then scanned her receipt code in one of the machines and then headed to a box that had to be knocked. After knocking twice, the machine's door opened to reveal her order inside. The futuristic vending machine can also dispense a sauce of your choice and includes a self-serve drinks station. At the end, there's also a contactless machine that sterilizes your hands once you have finished your meal.
Needless to say, the video that showed us what it may be to buy a burger in the future, went viral. Many took to the video to talk bout the amazing features that were straight out of a sci-fi movie. "Immediately thought of spy kids when the food came anyone else," wrote @llexibb100. "This is honestly so cool and advanced. But also, it’s a robotic way of living...pros and cons to it. However still very cool and neat," added @itssjadee99.
Many others talked about how great it was to get a meal without having to interact with anybody, "I need this so bad in the office. I don’t like conversation during meal time. Just. Leave. Me. Alone," shared @bolatbolatpipi. "My anxiety would love love love this! I would be out every night having dinner with my kids," expressed @laurammejorado. "I LOVE no human interaction!! The human interaction is supposed to be only between the ones that you choose to be in your inner circle or for getting to know new people in a place designed for that," noted @johnny2588.
