The psychology grad's clever trick for avoiding awkward advances has men fleeing! Find out how she handled unwanted attention and left them speechless.
Women are often approached by men making flirtatious or romantic advances. However, many times, these approaches leave women feeling cornered or embarrassed, sometimes leading to confrontation. To avoid unwanted male attention, a woman recently shared a clever method she believes can easily put off the opposite sex. The British tourist, Leila Layzell—who goes by @leilalayzell on Instagram—was visiting the famous Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, when a few men attempted to initiate a conversation with her. However, the digital creator successfully avoided the awkward phone number requests using what many described as a "genius" move.
A widely circulating video showed Leila taking out her phone to record after being approached by a “beach surfer” guy attempting to strike up a connection with her. The psychology graduate from the UK appeared uninterested in his advances but decided to try an unorthodox tactic to get him to back off. Leila cleverly pulled out her smartphone and began recording them through its selfie camera, claiming she was introducing him to her mom. “Can I show you to my mum? I need to show you to my mother before sharing my number,” she asked the man. However, there was no one on the other side of the camera, making it clear that Leila was using this as a clever tactic to fend off unwanted advances.
The stranger trying to get close to the digital creator on the beach was left with no choice but to simply walk away. “How to scare guys trying to get your phone number,” the text overlay on the footage added. According to the Brit tourist, the “I’m telling my mum” tactic could be useful for other women who struggle to decline strange requests from men due to safety concerns. “Girls will understand. We can’t just tell guys to f— off or anything like that because it’s a safety concern. You never know how they are going to react,” Bored Panda quoted Leila as saying. In fact, the stranger and his friend featured in her video rushed away from the scene after trying to hide their faces from the camera.
Moreover, the surfer's friend even attempted to snatch the video creator’s camera before cutting the conversation short. Finding it “funny,” Leila later told 173K followers: “This guy literally just twirled me around in the middle of the street and then asked for my number. And I needed to do one thing before entertaining him.” The digital creator was glad she didn’t exchange contact info with the man, as his reaction revealed his “rude” side. “This is probably why I don't have a husband for real. But you know what, he was lowkey rude at the end,” the tourist said.
Additionally, Leila was informed by the stranger’s friend, who was accompanying him, that he’d be okay to have a conversation with her mom. “But unfortunately, he wasn’t. Was he? I think they were both mad at me. The beach surfer guys just don’t want to be husbands. They’re not trying to get swiped up. They’re just committed to the surf. And I kind of respect it, to be honest,” she concluded, sparking mixed reactions to her one-minute experiment. @richardbeetle commented, “You showed them, basically. Whoever is supposed to recognize them will recognize them.” “I would totally say hi to your mum,” @domtraverthegr8 asserted. “Wanted by the feds for crimes against women vibes,” @soulsyncvibe wrote.
