Avocados, a rich source of good fat, help to lower levels of LDL (or bad) cholesterol, which can increase heart disease and stroke-related issues. But not everyone can afford the expensive fruit, and those who can waste a lot of it, says Avonna Sunshine (@avonna_sunshine). In an Instagram reel, posted on August 18, 2025, Avonna films a simple hack to 'get much more' out of the avocados, and people are shocked!

Most people cut the avocados in the center, twist to separate the two halves, remove the pit, and then scoop out the flesh with a spoon, but not Avonna. Well, she has a different approach. She cuts the top of the fruit and then scoops out the pulp while the seed remains intact inside. "Have you all seen the man who told us to stop slicing our avocados and start scooping them like this for our avocado toast?" Avonna asked. "God bless that man because it has saved me so many avocados," she added. Scooping out a substantial portion of the flesh, Avonna said she had been using the fruit for three days. "This is freaking genius, and it keeps the avocado fresh," she said. You can watch the whole video here!

Avocados are expensive, but people now are more conscious about consuming healthy food than ever, so despite the cost, they try to include the fruit as much as possible. According to the Hass Avocado Board, millennial households spend more on avocados every year than non-millennials. They found that Millennials spend about $3.65 per shopping trip, buying the fruit, whereas the non-Millennials spend $3.42 per trip. Considering the skyrocketing price of avocados, it's important that we give Avonna's viral hack a try. Meanwhile, reacting to Avonna's kitchen hack, @deemarielovee commented, "Yeah, let me try this! And I need to get some sourdough bread!" @realtor_decker said, "This is great, but I eat a whole one at a time and almost daily. If I end up not eating a whole one, I will definitely try this!" @butterflymetamorphoses wrote, "The seed keeps the avocado from turning. If you make guacamole, throw the seeds in, and it will prevent browning (make sure to warn people, though)."

@ntlgnt1 shared, "Avocado will keep for weeks in a sealed glass jar of water. It pretty much keeps it from ripening… So you will need to remove it before using! Oh, and the seed can be cut and soaked in alcohol and used as a pain relief spray! You're welcome!" @iam_fitfully suggested, "Squeezing fresh lime or lemon juice into the avocado and then either placing it in a Ziploc bag or plastic storage container will keep it green for many days." @chattachacha shared, "You can teach an old dog new tricks! I’ve been eating avocados my whole life (I’m 82 years old), and I’m just NOW learning this? Note, please, Lord, let me remember this trick tomorrow when I make my lunch."
