The plot unfolded when the woman continuously spotted the specific number sequence "0-8-1-1-6" popping up on license plates across town. Convinced the numbers were far more than a random fluke, she took the repeated sequence as a sign. "The Norfolk resident saw the numbers 0-8-1-1-6 in various places and decided they were a message from the universe," leading her straight to the Virginia Lottery's online portal. She placed her faith in the sequence for the August 12 Pick 5 night drawing, purchasing not just one, but two tickets.  

Two tickets, two $50,000 wins

When the drawing took place, her wild gamble hit the mark in dramatic fashion. Both of her tickets matched the winning numbers, earning her two separate $50,000 grand prizes for a total sum of $100,000. Overwhelmed by the sudden stroke of luck, the winner was ecstatic, recalling, "When I saw those zeroes, I thought I was seeing double. I started screaming!"

According to the Virginia Lottery, the odds of matching all five Pick 5 numbers in exact order are 1 in 100,000. A $1 Exact Order ticket pays the game's top prize of $50,000, which explains how two winning tickets using the same number sequence added up to $100,000.
