Moving away from childhood homes often means leaving behind a treasure trove of memories, many of which fade with time. A recent Google Maps trend on social media has allowed people to rediscover these long-forgotten places, offering a virtual trip down memory lane. Anna Costley, a Michigan resident who shares her experiences on TikTok as @annacostleyy, joined this nostalgic trend and uncovered a deeply emotional connection to her past.
In her video, Costley shared her discovery of preserved images from her childhood home on Google Maps, including a touching snapshot of her two late dogs on the driveway. Having lived in Plymouth for 23 years, she had no plans to revisit the home but felt compelled to look it up. “Somewhere on Google Earth, my two childhood dogs that have passed away are still on my childhood house’s driveway,” read the poignant text overlay on her video. This unexpected find struck an emotional chord, capturing the bittersweet beauty of holding onto cherished memories in a digital age.
Costley attached the same pictures she discovered, showing her two sweet pets standing in front of the old family home. It seemed the canines named Louie and Josie had probably walked through the driveway towards the street to get a glimpse of their "hooman." Moreover, the dogs were seen enjoying each other’s company against a picturesque countryside backdrop. Costley’s childhood home was surrounded by lush greenery, including tall trees, bushes and a garden with well-maintained grass. Notably, she was so immersed in childhood memories that she could not sleep the entire night, as reported by PEOPLE. She decided to post the heartwarming results of the online trend-cum-experiment on December 17.
“Louie was my best bud. He passed away in 2021. Josie passed away this year. They were the craziest dogs and also the funniest. People would say that Josie was so ugly she was cute because the older she got, the more of an underbite she grew,” Costley said, per the outlet. She remembered the canines for their affectionate energy and goofiness in making the whole family laugh and bringing them together. Louie, a puggle, was brought to Costley’s childhood home when she turned five. Josie, a terrier-pug mix, was adopted by the family three years later. “Seeing the photo instantly gave me a wave of nostalgia and made me cry. The trend really shows you how fast life moves,” she added.
“I watched those two crazy dogs bark in the driveway hundreds of times and never realized how much I would miss it,” stated Costley. Meanwhile, her post, as part of the Google Maps trend, managed to draw widespread attention on social media, garnering 5.1 million views and countless reactions. Among them, @normalinda03 remarked, “I’m in instant full-blown tears.” “Somewhere on Google Earth, my grandpa and his best bud, my childhood dog, are sharing a hot dog on a patio,” @bearraboo shared. @therealmarinarenee added, “My great-grandma is sitting in her wheelchair in the yard on Google Earth.”
