The woman believes that adults wearing backpacks might be working hard but not succeeding. People pointed out why she was wrong.
Quite a few people judge others based on what they wear and how they accessorize—no wonder the "old money" aesthetic has gotten so popular among fashion enthusiasts on the internet. But a comedian's take on people who carry backpacks has united the internet the most. Keren Margolis—who goes by @kerenmargolis on TikTok—gave her hot take on adults who carry backpacks and quite a few people found it offensive and misleading. Many of them took to the platform to give her a reality check.
In the video, Margolis said, "This is no shade, but if you're an adult wearing a backpack, you're not doing good." She explained, "I'm sure you're hustling, I'm sure you're on your grind, but you're not, like, crushing it." The comedian even went as far as to say, "Nobody sees an adult with all their belongings strapped to their body and goes, 'Yeah, that's the sign of extreme wealth.'" The woman captioned the post, "No shade." Many people reacted to her video and pointed out how it was a wrong judgment.

Brian Xu–who goes by @bri_xu on TikTok–made a stitch with the original video and expressed, "This adult is completely incorrect." He added, "55% of US professionals say they prefer using a backpack for work. If doing good is defined as being in the top 50 percent, there must be adults wearing backpacks that are doing good." He gave examples of people like Michelle Obama, Bill Gates, Draymond Green and even the adult "Dora the Explorer" who carry a backpack. "Professionals could be dangerously misled," Xu remarked.
@bri_xu @keren margolis good people must not be misled about backpacks #misleadingstats ♬ original sound - brian xu
In another response to Margolis' video, Khan Man–who goes by @ytkingkhan on TikTok–posted his take. A healthcare worker by profession, he drew attention to how he was carrying a backpack. "I was told I was a 'healthcare hero,'" the text overlay of the video read. "Who will stand in solidarity with healthcare workers?" the healthcare worker wrote in the video's caption.
@ytkingkhan Who will stand in solidarity with helathcare workers?? 😔👉🏽👈🏽 #healthcarehero #dentistry #desi #arab #muslim ♬ original sound - Khan Man 🍉
Another person, Kristin Roces–who goes by @kristineroces on TikTok–also made a stitch with the video and showed how she carries her backpack everywhere and with different outfits. In the caption, she mentioned, "Backpacks for life! Dora's out! Backpacks are so convenient. Fits everything. You have 2 hands to hold the phone and coffee. Most of all, you can put it in front of you when you commute."
@kristineroces Backpack for life! 😆 Labas mga ka-Dora! Sobrang convenient kaya naka-backpack - ✔️kasya lahat ✔️may 2 hands ka pang hawak ng phone at coffee ✔️ higit sa lahat, pwede lagay sa harap mo pag mag-commute ka 😁 #noshade #backpacking #travel #Japan #fyp #foryou #backpack #realtalk #blackjack ♬ I DON'T CARE - 2NE1
Yet another person, Julius Bokamoso–who goes by @bokamoso_julius on TikTok–pointed out in her stitch video how some adults are still students and carry a backpack. The caption read, "I wear my backpack everywhere/every day."

The comedian, Margolis, took to Instagram later to defend her statement and herself. Her post had one woman's reaction stating, "You are throwing shade all day. You are throwing shade, shade! It's a palm tree over there." She added, "To the left and the right." The woman noted, "I carry a backpack every day. Who carries a purse?" She concluded that you are asking to get robbed by carrying a purse. Margolis told @audacitycomedy, "I assumed that my seven followers on TikTok would never see this video or care." The comedian shared that she had never thought she would unite people from all walks of life with their hatred for what she had to say about backpacks.
