She states how she had to get a second job on the weekend to pay her bills, despite having a full-time 40-hour job.
There were times when a full-time job would be sufficient to pay one's bills. However, it seems that with inflation and the economy worsening, many individuals have had to look for additional sources of income through secondary jobs or other means. A woman on TikTok who goes by @aimun.like.praying shared a video lamenting how she had to find a second job to pay her bills. The video, which has a text overlay reading, "POV: You are adulting," has got 907.4K views and 103K likes on the social media site.
She starts the video by stating, "I just want everyone to know that I had to apply to a second serving job to work on the weekends because the full-time job that I work from Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week, does not pay the bills enough." This pushed her to get a second job that she would work over the weekends to be able to pay her bills. The situation proved to be quite upsetting for her because she assumed that the full-time position she had would cover her bills.
She points out how she worked hard 8 hours a day a week and expected that it would allow her to live "comfortably." The woman concludes the video by sharing she was confused and frustrated at having to work on the weekends as well. It seems that a lot of people are struggling to pay bills despite having multiple jobs. Other individuals shared their difficulties in the comments section. @theotherkilo expressed, "I work 40 hours at my corporate job and 40 hours driving Lyft. I'm exhausted."
Another individual, @sutton2813, highlighted, "And working on the weekend was just extra money for us to spend on shopping; now it's to make ends meet." @momxjeanz commented, "I'm doing the same thing. I'm a teacher, and I cut hair after school and on weekends. Typically work 15-25 hours at the salon every week on top of my 40 at school. Being a single adult is hard." @soul__man__ said, "Welcome to the real unfortunate world we live in."
A month back, Allison—who goes by @blaire_allison on TikTok—posted a video where she discussed how people should be able to admit that the world was very screwed up. It is captioned, "You shouldn't be comfortable with the cost of being alive right now. And if you don't like this content, scroll on." She kicks off the video by mentioning how people should admit that prices were getting absurd. She says, "You should be able to admit that going to the grocery store right now is depressing."
Allison also states how the real estate market was making it impossible for individuals to buy their own homes by charging exorbitant prices. She also reiterates how opening oneself to the truth has nothing to do with their situation in life. The woman said, "You know what? It sucks that right now, to buy a decent 12-pack of toilet paper that doesn't scrape my a** when I wipe costs $16." She went on to highlight the prices of a few other items and how it was getting worse for everybody. She concluded by saying, "Clearly, some people care because a lot of people follow me. So bye."
