Parents are often bombarded with a lot of criticism once they shift their focus from their kids and start prioritizing their wants and needs. It is even worse in the cases of stepparents. Similarly, one mother sparked a heavy discussion after deciding to financially distance herself from the responsibilities of her husband's kids from his previous relationship. While most people are in support of the woman who has biological kids of her own as well, many voiced their opinions against the mom–who goes by @thelakefamily6 on TikTok.

"So tell me why more drama has entered my life," the woman started her video. "I finally decided to focus on myself and let my husband take care of his own kids because I just cannot. And for some reason, I'm getting a lot of backlash from my own family and my husband's family, even though everyone has been telling me to just let my husband take care of his kids." She revealed that she was focusing on applying to PA school and was on the waitlist for something called a BSN program. "I'm just trying to work and do all these classes and I told my husband, you know what? I cannot be focused on this, so I just need you to handle this and that means financially too. I'm no longer helping him financially with his kids. I'm no longer paying for appointments," she continued.

The woman further mentioned how she made six figures, but her husband couldn't afford a lot of things for his kids that she had to pay for. "I was like, you know what? I need to worry about myself and focus on my career and focus on my kids. I have two biological kids. I'm putting them on the back burner while dealing with all of this drama. For what?" she continued, revealing how she was nacho-ing her husband and his kids after a point. "Does it hurt my husband? Yes. It hurts him financially as well because he can't pay the full amount of child support," the woman continued, adding they had taken this issue to court. Since her husband didn't make as much as he made while he was in the military, the woman agreed to pay for supporting his biological children.

But she had decided not to do that anymore. "Now he's getting drama and backlash from his ex-wife. Even though they're active litigation, she's threatening to file a letter with the judge saying that he's not paying the full amounts and she needs it. But my husband is not making that much money being retired. This can't be my problem. I love you to death, but this can't be my problem," she said. The woman was still ready to reconsider her decision if her husband's ex-wife was behaving nicely to her. "I have just been focusing on my glow-up, my mental health and just being spiritually and physically healthy. I'm just so excited about being able to apply to PA school," she concluded before mentioning that she had been compensating for almost 3 years and she was done with it.

She turns to the internet, asking for advice on whether she has done the right thing to save her family and marriage. The comment section had a bunch of diverse opinions and some of them questioned their family dynamics. @teewhyarewhykay wondered, "What are y'all married for? You already make 6 figures. What more money would school bring you? The school is an escapism. Your kids must be older and he is younger. Now he's a babysitter." @valeriepandora wrote, "The rage I feel over people who will tell you to hold a boundary but then tell you that you’re in the wrong for said boundary as a stepmom makes me crazy."
