'I saw her face; I was like — That's her. I couldn't stop crying.'

Chaltu Emana entered labor at 39 weeks; however, her delivery at a hospital in Dallas turned critical when her uterus ruptured. Amidst the life-or-death situation, Emana found support from a nurse, who alerted the doctors on time and saved her and the baby's lives. 8 years later, only when Emana joined the same hospital as a nurse did she finally meet the lady who saved her during the emergency, CBS News reported on October 2, 2025.

"I thought I was going to die, and I thought the baby was going to die too," Emana said, recalling the horrifying day. As Jenna Perry, the kind nurse, realized the seriousness of the situation, she immediately alerted the doctors, who then performed an emergency C-section. Fortunately, the timely medical intervention was successful, and Emana gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The woman knew nothing about the nurse, except that she remembered how she looked. Emana's search for Jenna finally broke when she spotted her in the background of an old picture of her baby. Recognizing her, Emana reached out to the hospital and was finally reunited with Jenna, years after their first encounter during Aaron, her son's birth. Jenna also recognized Emana, and, recalling the moment, she said, "I saw her face; I was like, 'That's her.' I couldn't stop crying. That day and that story have stuck with me for the last eight years. It was honestly one of the most incredible moments I have had in my career."
Serving in the healthcare sector means you're responsible for saving someone's life, almost every minute. Emphasizing it, Jenna said, "As a nurse, you really need to know you're doing things for a patient that could be simple but life-changing. The nurse, perhaps, had never expected to meet Emana, but when she did, she realized it was all she ever wanted. "Seeing her and saying thank you is all I wanted, and it finally happened," she added. Meanwhile, for Emana, that reunion meant more than anything else. The baby she thought she would lose was all grown up, and nobody but Jenna was responsible for that. "In that moment, I could finally say the words I've held onto for eight years: 'Thank you,'" she said. Jenna was just another nurse at the hospital, but had she not realized the urgency of the situation, things could have been tragic for Emana. Delay in medical assistance often leads to complications. In fact, to understand it, researchers looked at over 82,000 births in hospitals across Brazil. And as expected, they found that 3.8% of the women who had complications during childbirth did so because of delays in medical assistance. Moreover, the research (Delays in receiving obstetric care and poor maternal outcomes) found that the more serious the outcomes were, the more likely there was a delay involved.
Meanwhile, just like Emana, Trisha Summers, a single mom from Pennsylvania, found similar support from a nurse after she was diagnosed with cancer. Trisha knew she didn't have a lot of time, and the fear for her son's future was killing her every minute. She had no family to take him in. So, from her hospital bed, Trisha made a desperate request to a nurse she had just met, Trisha Seaman. "Can you take my son? Will you raise him if I die?" she asked the nurse. Seaman was shocked, but she didn't turn down the request. In fact, she not only agreed to raise Wesley, Trisha's son, but she also got her home so she could spend her final days surrounded by love.
