What started as a casual, fun weekend for Vivi Venegas (@chicamascool) at Baja Beach Fest unraveled into a nightmare when a mysterious stranger tapped her on the shoulder and told her they felt bad for her. Although the influencer wrote it off as a bizarre incident, it was eventually exposed in what she calls a year-long deception. Venegas later pieced together the truth and took to TikTok to detail her entire story on August 18, 2026, garnering over 1 million views.

The Baja beach encounter
The tensions sparked during the Baja Beach Fest when Venegas' partner received a text from an unfamiliar number asking, "Where you at?" While he acted innocent, the festival turned chaotic when a woman abruptly brushed past Venegas and bolted. Sensing something wasn't right, she chased her down and asked her if she was alright. Instead, the woman gave her a cryptic response. "I just feel bad for you... You just remind me a lot of myself," she told Venegas. However, before she could ask her anything, her partner intervened, shut her down, and revealed that she was his ex and that she was desperate for attention.
A tip-off on Tuesday
After the weekend, Venegas returned home, but the drama she thought she avoided was only getting started. She received an alarming call from someone close to her. The mutual contact between her and her boyfriend claimed that her partner had been seen with his ex, Ximena. Venegas asked the person for Ximena's number to clear the air once and for all. But just as she was about to place the call, her boyfriend chimed in yet again, brushing off the rumor as "crazy allegations." However, that wasn't enough to stop her from calling Ximena. So she did, only for her to laugh and hang up, giving her boyfriend a chance to brand her as "bitter."
Trying to move past
Hoping to finally move past the drama, Venegas and her boyfriend decided to grab dinner at Boiling Crab. Still uneasy, Venegas pressed her boyfriend to defend her. After dinner, the couple reached home, where the boyfriend received a call from an unknown number. Given how things had been going, Venegas urged him to answer his phone. Once on call, he appeared to try to end the call without her noticing, but she caught him red-handed. Still, he falsely asserted that Ximena had hung up on him. Worked up after this exchange, the couple then drove to Venegas' home, unaware that Ximena was parked outside, watching her climb into his car.
Following the 30-odd-minute drop-off, the man rushed back to his driveway to speak with Ximena in person. Meanwhile, to keep Venegas from suspecting anything, he made her FaceTime him the whole time after he returned to his home. To make things even more convincing, the man even wrote a message to Ximena, just as Venegas requested. Upon hearing about this, Venegas started believing her boyfriend, assuming that it might all have been a rumor after all.
The truth unravels
At last, the couple headed to Los Angeles for a great time. However, by the next day, the facade crumbled, and Ximena prepared to reveal a full year of preserved screenshots. Shortly after, she sent it all to Venegas, whose illusion shattered as soon as she received them. In several other videos, she went through those screenshots to realize that both of them were "being lied to and manipulated." The screenshots convinced Venegas that her relationship had been built on a web of lies that went far beyond that one weekend. Thankfully, following a lot of drama, she was able to get out of this mess and reclaim her life.
Infidelity is on the rise
Infidelity isn't uncommon, although estimates vary depending on how researchers define cheating and whom they survey. According to a survey conducted by the Institute for Family Studies, 20% of men in relationships have reported being physically intimate with someone other than their partner. In comparison, 13% of women have also admitted to engaging in physical relationships outside of their partnerships.
