Many consider sleeping etiquette non-negotiable for sustaining relationships. While some shower love on their partners, others don't hesitate to critique unhealthy habits when necessary. A woman found herself doing just that when she discovered her boyfriend's sentimental attachment to his unhygienic pillows. The 28-year-old girlfriend, who goes by u/plantsandpoison on Reddit, had plans to spend the night with her partner. However, she decided to call off the date night at his place after encountering the messy "pillow situation."

In the post, the woman shared that it was her first time visiting her 25-year-old boyfriend’s house. Everything had been going well since they started dating almost a month ago. During this time, she hadn't noticed her partner's pillows. “I had somehow never noticed his pillow situation before,” she wrote. However, when she finally got the chance, the discovery was less than pleasant, triggering tension between the young couple. “When I noticed, I made a comment about how long he’s had the pillows,” the woman added, sharing pictures of the headrests as evidence to support her claims.

“Apparently, he’s been using them since he was a kid,” she claimed. Deciding to address the issue before it became a bigger problem, she confronted her boyfriend. “So, I asked him if he had any other pillows,” she said, hoping for an alternative. Unfortunately, the only extra pillow in his home was meant for his cat. “He said he only had one pillow but that his cat usually sleeps on it,” the woman explained, adding that she was not keen on sharing it with the feline. “I said I don’t really want to sleep on that pillow, and I’d prefer to sleep at my own place with clean pillows,” she confessed.

Moreover, the girlfriend, who expected support from her partner, received a cold response instead. “His response? He waited for a minute and then said he would be sad to see that I would choose something as small as pillows come between us spending the night together,” the woman explained. After he refused to offer any solution, she ultimately decided against the date night. “I ended up going home and spending the night at my own house instead,” her post added. The pictures shared by the woman revealed that the pillows were severely stained.

“I even asked if I could bring my own pillows and gently suggested he get rid of his. He said it was totally fine for me to bring a pillow but that he wouldn’t get rid of his, as they are ‘sentimental,’”she explained. “I feel like I can’t even kiss him or anything while we’re sleeping because I don’t want him to get his gross pillowness all over me and my clean pillows,” she concluded, sparking reactions from the Reddit community. “I’m pretty chill, but there is no way I could sleep on those pillows,” u/Complete-Design5395 wrote. “Does he have any idea how many dust mites are in those things? Pillows need to be changed out for this reason,” u/Mvreilly17 agreed.
