Relationships thrive on compromises, selflessness, and mutual understanding. A woman shared a post on Reddit revealing how her boyfriend decided otherwise when he stumbled upon an opportunity and thoughtlessly accepted it. The stay-at-home boyfriend insisted on moving from Minneapolis to LA so he could pursue his dream to be a streamer with just 2 followers. In return, he expected the woman to leave her job, family, and life and start afresh. She stood her ground and couldn't be more glad.

The woman mentioned that despite having a degree in biology, the man was "never able to get" a steady, full-time job. He made a minimum income with part-time work as a barista. However, it didn’t bother her as she was an NICU nurse in Minneapolis and was earning well. She was okay with supporting both of them and even offered to help with finances if the man wished to study further. However, he seemed uninterested. "He was obsessed with the idea of becoming a streamer and moving to LA," the post read.

Despite being "obsessed," he never had the "time" to build a social media presence and actually put work into the plan. He had last streamed a year prior and had only 2 followers. Based on this, he decided to move to LA and wanted his partner to drop everything and join him. "I paid for everything: the apartment, our groceries, his medication, his pet fish, all of our dates (that I always planned)," the girlfriend said. When she refused to move with him, he recklessly said she was the problem.

"He’s literally done nothing to make his own aspirations come true. Dude sits at home for 50 hours a week in his underwear, eating Takis and playing video games that he isn’t even streaming," she remarked. Due to this, the duo fought and eventually broke up. The woman cancelled the lease on her apartment and began house hunting to start afresh. It’s one thing to want support from a partner — it’s another to expect them to take on most of the real-world work while you chase a dream.

Data from a Starling Bank survey of more than 4,000 couples in the UK found that 72% of women report doing the majority of household chores, while only 18% of men agree their partner does most of the work. It also reported that couples who don’t share tasks fairly argue over chores more than five times a month on average.

A study from the University of Cambridge found that men don’t “perceive” domestic tasks the way women do. It’s why there’s so much mental load, even if men are helping around. For instance, a man sees a fridge half empty and thinks it’s half empty; a woman, on the other hand, will make a mental note of what needs to be restocked.

Similarly, for this woman, her streamer boyfriend was holding back on his own dream and made zero contribution to the relationship. Things looked dim for the man. In an update a few months later, the woman mentioned that he confirmed his plan to move but was in a dire state since no one was funding his life any longer. "After our breakup, he came out as gay and officially started dating our mutual best friend," she remarked. While she hopes the best for him, she is glad to have taken a stand for herself and the life she built. u/PricklyAvocado said, "Sounds like a f**king win to me." u/jtowndtk added, "I'm sorry you were in that kind of relationship; enjoy your new freedom and treat yourself."
