Some things children do make no sense to others, except their parents. On May 19, 2026, Kristin Jamieson (@kristin_jamieson) took to Threads to share an incident involving her 7-year-old daughter that had her in stitches, especially after hearing her daughter’s proud response during pickup later that day. Jamieson shared a screenshot of a note from her daughter's school nurse about an incident during recess. Although her daughter's actions were unexpected, she said it was "completely in character." The post has received 25,000 likes, 306 comments, and 161 reshares.

Dedicated to the role

The note had an "assessment" and a "treatment" section. The nurse explained that her daughter was brought into the nurse's office by a teacher's assistant right after recess. Her fellow students reported that "she ate a leaf" while pretending she was an elephant and had a "scratchy throat." The nurse reassured Jamieson that her daughter had no cough or any respiratory symptoms she should be worried about, but added that while she was in the nurse's office, her daughter was "talkative and in no distress."

The apple juice 'treatment'

The school nurse also described the treatment given to her daughter. "Rested in nurse office, drank apple juice without any difficulty," the nurse wrote, adding that when the student felt better, she went back to class. In case there were any new symptoms, she was told to return. "Discussed the importance of not eating plants/substances in the future," the nurse concluded. When Jamieson came to pick her daughter up, she told her mother all about it. She proudly said, "It was a very big leaf, and I only ate part of it." Jamieson ended her post saying she adored her daughter, despite the quirky character traits. It was what made her unique.

Unstructured play

Children get all sorts of creative when they are playing. In 2025, Harris Poll surveyed over 500 American children between the ages of 8 and 12 to see how they preferred to spend time with friends. The results found that the majority (45%) enjoy unstructured play over organized activities (33%). Only 23% chose online socializing. Researchers also noted the children's sentiment after the survey: "Nearly three-quarters of the children in our survey agreed with the statement ‘I would spend less time online if there were more friends in my neighborhood to play with in person."

Children will eat anything

People thought the story was hilarious and that Jamieson should retell it to her daughter when she's older. Some parents shared similar instances with their kids. @hrengland commented, "My 4th grader also eats leaves, sometimes grass. I'm constantly telling him he cannot, in fact, just eat random foliage." @sarahjclarkson wrote, "My child had to go to the nurse’s office today because he ate a random unidentified flower from the playground. I got a phone call. Must have been the day for it."
