On June 23, 2026, just before sunset, Karrie Ann Snure (@karrieannlivingshashta) was riding on a horse in Northern California’s Mount Shasta, near Highway 97, when she heard a creepy sound. At first, she noticed a bag of trash sticking out of the grass and thought it was talking. As she and her daughter continued along the rugged mountain trail, the eerie sounds grew louder, echoing through the trees like the chants of a cult. Following the noise, they reached a field that left them stunned: hundreds of solar-powered Bluetooth speakers hidden in the brush, all blasting unsettling mantras in human voices, as she shared in a series of Instagram reels.

'Straight apocalyptic'

“This is straight apocalyptic,” Snure expressed after reaching the location. “Someone is summoning something here.” She and her daughter Jordan had never expected to find 100 to 200 speakers punctuated across the mountain with sound emitters. There weren’t any houses anywhere close within miles, which made them think that it was some kind of summoning. Snure hypothesized that it was “white noise” blasting from the loudspeakers, repeating several mantras that were bizarrely unsynced.

Far less sinister than expected

But as it turned out, the answer to the mystery was simpler than everyone thought. Between June 25 and June 27, Snure revisited the forest for follow-up investigations. Her OnX maps confirmed that the speakers were installed on a private property adjacent to the California Government Lands. On June 29, she confirmed that the owner had installed the speakers with positive intentions, as a sincere prayer for world peace. “His purpose was for elevating consciousness like trying to affect the universe, you know, with his positive messages,” Snure said.

Witches, cults, and demons

After people suggested it to her, Snure also considered another possibility. She theorized that the sounds could be a “live Lumerian conference call.” Given the legends, it didn’t seem incorrect to imagine so. According to a report by Atlas Obscura, the 14,179-foot-tall Mount Shasta was once home to an ancient city, the “City of Light” named Telos. During ancient times, the city was drowned and buried under the waves of the Indian Ocean.

Mount Shasta is also believed to be the home of the Lizard People, the reptilian humanoids that live under the ground. In fact, according to a government-funded study cited by Ancient Origins, 89% of the visitors admitted that they visited Mount Shasta to commune with the paranormal spirits that reside underground.

Viewers were just as taken aback by the huge revelation. @michellewycka commented, "Well done, neighbor. It felt like you were in a Scooby-Doo episode." @montanamermaid805 said, "Anything man-made in nature is obnoxious! So curious as to the fire risk that these solar devices pose to the environment? The intention is to spread peace. Hopefully, it doesn’t spread the wildfire."
