Just as the famous “butterfly effect” suggests that a tiny change can eventually contribute to a much larger event, a seemingly trivial encounter can sometimes produce an unexpected chain reaction. Anila Sita (@anilasita) recently experienced this phenomenon unfolding live in front of her eyes when she visited a beach. In a July 21, 2026, TikTok video, she detailed how a guy approached her to “kiss or punch” him for a reel. And while she punched him, she didn’t realize that she was "literally people's karma."

Random occurrences hide secrets

For Sita, the coincidence felt like evidence that seemingly random events can sometimes be connected in unexpected ways. She calls this experience “spiritual, crazy, and inspiring.” A day before she posted this video, she was tanning on a beach along with one of her friends. At one point, two guys approached her and asked if she could “kiss him on the cheek” or “punch him” for a film they were shooting. She chose to punch him. Footage she shared shows her wearing black boxing gloves and smacking her fist into a man’s face.

Fates tied in the web of experience

After she left the beach, she forgot the experience, citing it as ordinary. Little did she know that she had just delivered karma. When Sita showed a video of her punching the man to her roommate when it showed up on her Instagram, she told her that the man was none other than her ex. The revelation obviously left her shocked! Without realizing it, she had punched the very man her roommate considered her ex. Her roommate was just as astonished, and she believed her spirit guides had somehow led Sita to her ex so she could unknowingly deliver his karma. “It just felt like karma. I was delivering it without even realizing it,” Sita exclaimed.

The ancient riddle of 'karma'

Karma holds different meanings and perspectives for different people, across different religions and cultures. According to a YouGov poll, 55% of Americans believe in karma. The broader ideas associated with new-age spirituality also resonated with many respondents, with 69% agreeing "everything is interconnected" and 68% saying "everything happens for a reason."

For Sita and her roommate, though, the coincidence felt like more than a hypothetical New Age belief. It seemed like karma playing out in real time. “Even if sometimes it looks like people are not getting the karma they should after they have done you wrong, you don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Maybe something is happening, like in this situation. Trust that justice will be served,” Sita said, reflecting on the happenstance.
