No one really wants to lose their valuable possessions passed over through generations. But sometimes circumstances force us to let go of things we have cherished for years. As Hurricane Milton made its way into Florida on Wednesday, a woman evacuated from Tampa Bay had to leave behind a piano gifted by her grandmother. As heartbreaking as the departure may sound, Krissy–who goes by @flteachermomkrissy on TikTok–found the most honorable way to bid her goodbye by playing the musical instrument for the last time.

In a video that has garnered over 576K views, Krissy can be seen mastering the now-defunct piano with a smile on her face. While completely devoted to the final moments, the middle school teacher forgot all the recent chaos caused by another catastrophic tropical cyclone, Hurricane Helene, that rocked parts of Florida last week. The overlay text on the footage read, "One last song with my dear piano before storm debris picks up."

The "techy teacher mom" from Florida decided to pay tribute to the hurricane-waterlogged piano by playing Billy Joel's classic number "Piano Man." Sadly, the musical instrument had been flooded and needed to be discarded to prevent mold from growing inside. In one of the comments, she mentioned that she had this piano for the past 35 years.

Moreover, Krissy has no plans to make use of the piano as an outdoor keepsake due to the extensive damage it sustained. According to the educator, only ten of the musical instrument's keys function, and the legs are so warped it may fall over before it's picked up. Following the evacuations, the woman and her family temporarily moved to the northern part of Orlando, per her comments. "I'm watching it travel over my home in Clearwater now," she informed her viewers in the comment section of the 20-second clip.

People in the comments share their views. @__cinna__1 wrote, “Piano Man in this situation is diabolical, and I'm going to cry.” @chickenwing.hotdog remarked, “It literally sounds like a 'thank you, goodbye' type of melody, and the piano feels metaphorically on its deathbed. I hope that makes sense. I'm not sure how else to describe the feeling it gives me.” “We’re all in the mood for a melody and you’ve got us feeling alright. What a beautiful note to leave her on after such devastation,” @user003461015190 echoed the sentiment.

In a follow-up video, the middle school teacher provided an update about the evacuations happening in Tampa Bay. Last week, the neighborhood, where the Floridian lived, underwent a mandatory cleanup in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Soon after, residents were required to evacuate the bay area within a week, as per the text overlay on the footage. It further showed their household stuff lying on the roadside. Many people in the comments offered prayers for the family.
