Woman left confused after a weird job interview experience: 'Am I the bad guy here?'

She wondered whether the remarks that the interviewer made were normal or if she just went through an unpleasant experience.

An interview experience can act as a window for a candidate to gauge how their job experience is going to be. That is exactly what happened with a TikTok creator who goes by @scratchqueenlauren on the platform. The creator shared an experience that she described as, the "Worst interview ever!" She described what took place at the job interview as the "craziest thing" that has ever happened to her.

Lauren said that she had to share the experience as she sat in her driveway and remembered the entire ordeal. "So I went to the interview for an office job," the woman explained. "I had done a phone interview last week with this person and they said okay we would love to have you come in for an in-person interview." Lauren agreed to the proposition and went in five minutes early for the interview on the scheduled day and time. "When I go this lady, she's very standoffish," the woman observed. She got a vibe that the interviewer didn't like her.

"I was very polite and was like, 'Hi, how are you? It's so good to meet you,' and everything," Lauren revealed. "She looks at me and goes, 'Your shoulders are showing,'" the woman said describing the out-of-place response she got from the interviewer. Lauren was wearing the outfit that she wore for the interview while filming the video as well and expressed that she was wearing a turtle neck top with a formal skirt. "I had brought a little blazer with me because it's a little breezy outside but it was hot in there," the woman narrated. She noted that there were no visible bra straps and her shoulders were barely showing as well.

Lauren still offered to put her blazer on. The woman curtly replied, "That's unacceptable workplace attire." Nonetheless, the woman apologized, put her blazer on and went ahead with the interview. "I noticed weird commentary slip out in between," she pointed out. Lauren even gave examples and said things like, "What would you consider workplace toxicity?" or "How do you handle drama." She said other stuff like that which the creator believed was very insignificant.

She thought it would have been better if she had been asked about things like, "What are my leadership styles?" or "What do I look for in a company?" However, the person seemed more interested in knowing how the woman would handle drama and gossip and other things like that. Things became even more shocking when the woman put her hands forth to shake hands with the interviewer at the end and said, "Thank you for meeting me." The woman simply said, "Don't touch me, I don't give consent for you to touch me." Lauren was quite taken aback.

"I was like, I didn't touch you, I was just trying to shake your hand," the woman recounted looking visibly confused. She didn't know what to say as she hadn't touched the lady and had simply put her hand out for her to shake it. She explained herself nonetheless and said that she didn't mean anything and left. "I have never been treated like this before. Do you have to ask for consent to shake someone's hand?" the creator wondered. The woman had a lot of questions after the interview. She shared that she had been home with her daughter for a few years now and hadn't worked in a formal setting. Such a thing had never happened before and the woman was trying to grasp if everything had shifted so drastically.

She didn't want the job now but she questioned, "Am I the bad guy here? Can someone tell me if what I did was wrong?" She didn't feel that the lady would be calling her for the job and that was fine, but the woman was still very confused because of everything that went down. People took to the comments section of the video to back the woman. @dmrstrs wrote, "I would have told them to withdraw my application. That is extremely unprofessional. She must be the drama and toxicity of the office." @nox7774 commented, "I would have smiled and asked her if this was an example of the office toxicity she was referring to so she could see how you handle it." @its_anew_day1 suggested, "Send an email, saying that her treatment of you was shockingly rude and that you're not interested in the position anymore due to that. Name her in the email."
